I only hope the Thai system works better than whatever it is that the UK Border Force is using but, given the poor history of customer-facing Thai IT projects, I wouldn't bet on it.

The OP is not referring to E-gates, they have been in use in departures for a while and working quite well so far. I used one to leave in Sept.

You have to bear in mind you arrive as a foreigner which requires a visa status check. The first arrival E-gates for foreigners are supposed to come with ETA.

Might want to re-name that one.

I think its aptly named!

Cuss" is a verb that means to say words that are not polite, usually when you are angry. It can also be used as a noun to describe a disrespectful or indecent word or expression. For example, "He cussed me out for crashing his pickup truck".

"Cuss" is an Americanism that originated between 1765 and 1775. It is a variant of the word "curse" with the "r" removed and the vowel shortened.

"Cuss" can also be used as a noun to describe a persistently annoying person. Synonyms for this usage include "blighter", "gadfly", "pest", and "pesterer".

Arriving at Heathrow T2 last August with a new UK passport I was annoyed to find that - yet again, as it had happened repeatedly with the old one - the e-gate facial recognition system didn't work so I was directed to go and queue to see a human being (only one on duty) at the arrivals counter. If it had just been me, fair enough, maybe my passport was dodgy or my face too weird for a computer to be able to process it, lol, but no, I reckoned that around 20% of passengers were being rejected, all of them with UK passports. I got chatting with my neighbours in the long and winding queue, and several of them were pretty irate as they also had brand new passports and were frequent flyers, so this nonsense was a regular event for them. I only hope the Thai system works better than whatever it is that the UK Border Force are using but, given the poor history of customer-facing Thai IT projects, I wouldn't bet on it

Ah yes, the old but irrelevant, "if it's dodgy for me at Heathrow, then it's going to be apocalyptically rubbish for everyone else at Suvarnabhumi" argument again.

The Aussies were too right about the whingeing Poms.

hmmm… this facial recognition certainly makes the process quicker. Sometimes it used to take 2-3 hrs to get through , waiting forever in the queue that snaked back and forward towards the IO

How would you know that it hasn't started yet?

I left through BKK on international flight 2 weeks ago. It works great, Scan passport step through to next gate, scan fingerprints and gate opens. Very impressive.

Again?

It seems that the AoT data will be separate from the Thai immigration system. And not such a bad idea. Aot will be deleting the data after 48 hours, while Thai immigration can retain forever.

The self check in systems are great if they work and the airport is designed for the process.

If you just stick kiosks into the check in area and leave the old counter structures it's a recipe for chaos if KLIA2 in KL is any example
