Woke Culture Far From Dead, and Thriving in the UK, Look at the BBC

Despite widespread public frustration, the ideology often referred to as "wokery" is not only alive in the UK but thriving within its major institutions. Elon Musk may have declared that “the tide has turned” on woke culture in the United States, but such optimism does not hold true across the Atlantic. In Britain, the progressive values associated with this movement have become deeply entrenched, extending their influence over sectors ranging from education and healthcare to arts and media. The apparent quieting of prominent activists doesn’t signify a loss; rather, it signals their victory.

These ideals dominate some of the nation’s most influential organizations, including the civil service, universities, and even unexpected corners such as luxury car advertising. A prime example of this influence can be seen at the BBC, an institution funded by the British public. The broadcaster recently awarded its “Women’s Footballer of the Year” title to Barbra Banda, a player who had been disqualified from competing in the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations for failing to meet sex eligibility standards. The decision sparked outrage, with J.K. Rowling summarizing public sentiment by stating, “Presumably the BBC decided this was more time-efficient than going door-to-door to spit directly in women’s faces.”

Football itself offers another striking example. In a women’s match this summer, a teenage player questioned whether a member of the opposing team was a man. The player was biologically male, yet the governing authorities deemed the question transphobic. The result? A six-match ban for the teenage girl. The decision highlights a growing trend: concerns over fairness and safety in women’s sports are often dismissed as discrimination, leaving those who question such practices vulnerable to censure.

This issue underscores the growing chasm between the public and the cultural elite. Many Britons find the inclusion of biologically male athletes in women’s sports problematic, citing safety concerns and the inherent physical advantages males often possess. The public prioritizes safeguarding fairness and physical well-being over the potential for emotional offense, but such views are increasingly marginalized by those in power.

Despite polls and surveys reflecting public discontent, the ideology persists, largely because it has been absorbed into the worldview of those shaping policies, culture, and education. These values are no longer fringe; they are the norm among those who govern and influence British society. The resistance from ordinary citizens seems irrelevant when faced with the institutional grip of this "pious, poisonous progressivism."

The reality is inescapable: woke culture is not in decline. It is firmly established, unapologetically present, and poised to remain a dominant force. Its advocates are not merely content with their victories; they continue to reinforce their ideals, ensuring that their influence extends even further. For those who resist, the message is clear—woke culture is not just alive but thriving, and its proponents show no signs of relenting.

What is the problem with the Brits? They have spread the gangrene throughout the dominions. It seems the Labour activists of the bankrupted governments of Wilson and Callaghan, kicked out of the UK by Maggie's policies, have infected Canada, Australia and New Zealand (and a few other countries where they migrated).

Where are the Iron ladies of the 21st century? Nowhere to be seen....

It has been apparent for a generation that those with no real purpose or meaning in life are strong advocates of both wokery and climate change theory. Empty shells of people who are unable to think independently, hate themselves, hate their country, and hate humanity. :coffee1:

The UK is an outlier in many ways. While the US and much of Europe has seen a rise in support of right wing parties and a rejection of Woke idiocy, we have the clowns of the Labour party running the country (into the ground).

Let's see how much damage they can do before being removed at the next election. They're certainly doing their best to ruin the country they despise.

Delivering on promises to end austerity, invest in health and education while maintaining the triple lock.

Historically, the contribution of Afro Caribbean troops in WW1 and 2 has been shamefully underrepresented, but other than that.....

By ending austerity I assume you mean freezing pensioners, forcing farmers to sell up and increasing the tax burden by 40 Billion?

By investing in education I assume you mean increasing tuition fees and adding VAT to school fees?

By investing in health, I assume you mean breaking the promise about no investment without reform?

All of this with a Chancellor who lied on her CV.

Great stuff. 😃

No pensioners have been frozen Jonny, they’re enjoying triple locked pension increases paid for by people who don’t enjoy guaranteed increases in their income.

Closing the tax loophole on land used by the rich to avoid taxes is a good move and will reduce demand for farming land  by tax dodgers.

£Billions extra invested in health and education!

With the UK’s finances looking so much better there’s room to invest in public services, rather than tax giveaways to the hyper wealthy, dodgy contracts to chums and hundred’s of £millions wasted on the ‘stop the boats’ scam.

Things are looking up for ordinary working people in the UK, but of course the rich do bleat when they have to pay their fare share.

Why so many near the bottom of the financial heap shill for them is a mystery.

Of course, back in reality they have screwed the pensioners, the farmers, Uni students and schoolkids.

They've had a freebies scandal involving Starmer, Reeves lieing on her CV and Louise Haigh sacked for fraud.

They lied about the blackhole and went back on their promise not to raise taxes.

Starmer's approval rating is in the toilet.

The ecomony contracted in September as they lead us into a recession.

In truth they came from across the empire,  Legio IX Hispana being an example.

I pay taxes in the UK, my taxes haven’t gone up.

Labour ‘scandals’ are hardly that given the excesses of the past 14 years, and there’s even been a ministerial resignation in the face of criticism. Something the UK hasn’t seen for that same 14 years.

I'm a "woke" citizen of the USA, and I can assure you that "wokeness" will never die in the USA. Once you're "woke," you'll never be able to allow yourself to "sleep" (ignore the plight of others) again.

Point being that Roman soldiers are not indigenous to the U.K and they were an invading force and have since gone back to where they came from  .

Which is  contradictory to the message the video sends about Black people being indigenous to the UK

This thread  is about the UK .

Americans don't have to invade every thread .

Trump and Biden supporters will soon start squabbling if the USA gets a mention

I understand and appreciate your point. However, threads concerning the USA are bombarded by posts from non-USA people, such as yourself. This post is also about being "woke," so my comments were directed at that aspect of the post.

I'll leave it to your Brits to post further on this, and will, from now on, sit this one out...unless I get comments on my post.

Oh, so Roman soldiers from across the empire who were stationed in Briton for years never married, had children?

And no the video doesn’t say Black peoples are ‘indigenous to the UK’, they are like ever other race in the UK, they arrived from somewhere else.

The Romans didn't invade the UK. They conquered what they called Britannia and is now called England and Wales. England and Wales are not the UK.
