WW2 veteran urges PM to end 'brutal' frozen pension policy

A World War Two veteran has said Sir Keir Starmer has a "golden opportunity" to end what she describes as a "brutal" policy of freezing the pensions of some Britons who move overseas.

 

Anne Puckridge, who is days away from turning 100, is one of just over 453,000 British pensioners living abroad who do not get any annual rise in their state pension.

 

She has received £72.50 a week since she moved to Canada in 2001, at the age of 76, to be nearer her daughter.

She was just interviewed on the BBC Breakfast show, l have to say she is really good for a hundred year old lady.

 

Sadly the DWP rolled out their usual misleading quotation for the piece, l honestly don’t think it will ever change, Governments of all colours rely on the fact that most Brits don’t even believe that expats should be receiving a pension.

They have plenty of UK money for Ukraine and other overseas adventures.  The UK citizens? Now this is pretty standard for all Western countries.  Billions for their friends in overseas governments they support - peanuts for the plebs, commoners, and little people.

"In 2019, the Conservative government estimated it would cost £600m to fully restore pensions to the level they would have been if they had not been frozen."

 

An amount which IMHO is small beer when compared to the alleged £22bn black hole in the UK's public finances which Rachel Reeves was striving to plug in the recent Budget!

Indeed, and when you think of the cash that is given away in aid, taking care of immigrants of various varieties, it is peanuts...........🤔
