An incident occurred on the afternoon of December 6, when a young Portuguese tourist, identified as Mr. Joao Pedro Sales e Silva, 27, collapsed while preparing to participate in a tubing activity on the Pai River in Pai District, Mae Hong Son Province. Despite efforts by local medical teams and the Tourist Police to save his life, he succumbed to a sudden cardiac arrest.

At approximately 14:30 the Tourist Police received an emergency call reporting that a tourist had lost consciousness at a tubing spot near an abandoned house behind the Pai Wednesday Market. Emergency responders rushed Mr. Silva to Pai Hospital, where doctors performed CPR and other life-saving measures. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at 15:00.

Authorities revealed that the victim had a pre-existing heart condition, which may have contributed to the sudden cardiac arrest. He had been preparing to join the popular tubing activity when the incident occurred.

The deceased’s traveling companions have notified his family in Portugal. His body is being kept at Pai Hospital and will be sent for further examination in Chiang Mai as part of standard procedures.

The Pai Police Station is overseeing the investigation, while the Tourist Police are coordinating with the Portuguese embassy to provide necessary support to the family and ensure smooth repatriation of the body.

Local authorities have expressed condolences to the victim’s family and pledged to assist in all aspects of the incident.
