If you really wanted to know, you could have asked the girls around you in the last decades. But maybe they would have been too polite to tell you the truth.

IMHO anyone > maybe 70 is old. Some might think or feel like not so old, but that doesn't change the fact.

I have noticed Thai women are quite incredulous when I tell them my age. Apparently most Thai guys are on their last legs at 70.

True, it may be flattery. The expression Khaeng Rang is often used.

I know a guy over 70 who likes to play with the girls. When they ask him how old he is, he answers kind of truthfully "over 50".

I don't think it would make a difference to them, but somehow it makes him feel better/younger.

Nietsche said "To live is to suffer; to survive is to find some meaning in the suffering". I think that you realise that as you get older. It's not about finding a point to carrying on; carrying on is the point.

You also realise that if you have good health you have everything. All lives deserve a third act.

I don't know about getting old, but people are just dying to get into the cemetary.

Why did you have to dig up that old joke🙂

And by the way most people can't afford burial nowadays.

Friedrich Nietzsche also said:

"Man is the only animal that must be encouraged to live".

But my favourite quote is:

"For believe me! — the secret for harvesting from existence the greatest fruitfulness and the greatest enjoyment is: to live dangerously! Build your cities on the slopes of Vesuvius! Send your ships into uncharted seas! Live at war with your peers and yourselves! Be robbers and conquerors as long as you cannot be rulers and possessors, you seekers of knowledge! Soon the age will be past when you could be content to live hidden in forests like shy deer! At long last the search for knowledge will reach out for its due: — it will want to rule and possess, and you with it!”

Friedrich Nietzsche, The Gay Science: With a Prelude in Rhymes and an Appendix of Songs

And that was before the word "gay" means what it does today!

How about you? Is there anything in your life that is more fun with 60, 70, 80, 90 or whatever? Or is it just living another year, with a little more medial issues, with a little less power?

I'm only 75 so far – so not really old – but I'm having a great life. I'm living a lot like when I was around 20 – and some times even better – but with all the experience in the luggage that I missed back in that time...😉

I look forward to many more great years...👍😎

Great attitude to life. You've won the health lottery which is the most important one.

No work anymore, no annoying children anymore, time for hobbies.

I'm closer to 70 than 60, just started a new job, teaching science to 'annoying children' 🙂  I really can't imagine retiring.

I think the user you are replying to was referring to children of your own living under your roof, whom you cannot say goodbye to when the bell goes.

I believe there's a way of blocking irritating posts but don't know how; there's a know-it-all who I would love to erase?

Click on your profile picture at the top left of the screen to go to your profile, scroll down a little and you should see "account settings" towards the right hand side - click that, look over to the right on the next screen and you will see "other settings", under that click "ignored users", on the next screen type the user's name into the "Add new user to ignore list" box and it should come up with options for what you want to block.

It doesn't block posts, unfortunately, so if they regularly post, you will still see the titles.

..somebody half intelligent & productive through their life enjoys watching their children grow as adults, give good advice, love the grandkids, share Christmas & time together, enjoy travel, enjoy the garden ,  ... quality time is the most precious commodity ...

.....have you wasted your life ???

I chose the better path so I didn't have any children to grow as adults. I didn't waste any of my life apart from the lost years in my 2 relationships with toxic women. Luckily it wasn't a great deal of my life, just a couple of extended interludes between better things

I admit that now I am just wasting time waiting to pass over the great divide, but the body isn't up to much any more. Being insulted on AN is about as exciting as my life gets now.

There is a far simpler way.

Open a post from the poster one wants to ignore, hover the mouse pointer over the user name ( don't click on it ), the profile page is opened , go to bottom right and click on "ignore" and do what the instructions say.
