I find that even sadder that I need to use an external search engine to find what I want rather than a search engine within the site itself. Says a lot really. Thanks again.

The top search engines do make it look easy but there is a lot of design and computing resources behind it. 1

It's really sad is that you're using AN to find, promote, or review a restaurant. 2

wimpy Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Was considering The Dukes or Billy for Christmas day dinner. Any others I should be thinking about? Thanks.
TheAppletons Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Just about every major hotel offers something: Marriott, Shangri-La, Intercontinental, Melia, Movenpick, etc. https://www.chiangmaicitylife.com/citynow/whats-on/food-and-drink/
wimpy Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Yeah, I know about those. Should have said I am more interested in local restaurants.

Wish I could agree, but their hummus is terrible. Okay, we are on the other side of the earth from the land of hummus, but with a name like that you'd expect better. Just a can of garbanzo beans thrown into a blender. Hardly any garlic or tahini by the taste of it. If any olive oil it was cheap-cheap oil; mostly corn oil, soybean oil etc. with zero taste or aroma. I say don't waste your money on the Hummus from Hummus Restaurant. Ironic, isn't it. Hummus Ingredient Quantity Chickpeas 1 can Tahini 1/4 cup Lemon juice 1/4 cup Garlic 2 cloves Olive oil 2 tbsp Cumin 1 tsp Salt To taste Water [recipe courtesy of an A.I. Bot) As needed

One standout item on the menu for this bloke is the halibut which never disappoints. Top spot. I second that recommendation from @Mahseer for Norden restaurant. I can recommend the "Fish Duo". With fish cooked to perfect tenderness -- not every restaurant fish cooked perfectly like that. Meatballs excellent, too. Tasted home-made (but I'm no expert). Lingonberries not overly tart. Even the essential mash potatoes were good taste. [Photo from FoodPanda delivery service -- which I use frequently. I don't know price in the restaurant.]
Old Curmudgeon Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 I am surprised no mention so far of That's It Schnitzel. Such good food. Is it new in Chiang Mai? I just discovered it a few weeks ago (thanks to Food Panda). I ordered Chicken Schnitzel sandwich. With "original sauce" plus grilled eggplant optional "topping". Really delicious. And a very generous size, too. Now schnitzel looks like a simple food to cook, but it is not. Cook too fast, and it gets tough because the meat is so thin. Cook too slow and the crust is cooked, but the meat is raw. Cooked just right takes a careful touch and, probably, years of experience. That's It Schnitzel was just right: tender and juicy The egg bread sandwich roll excellent, too. Fresh, soft, delicious bread. I don't know if they sell just the bread rolls alone, but if they did, I'd bet would be very popular. Alas, and sad to say, forget the falafel. Not bad, but not good. Bland and a little bit dry, which is not nice for falafel to be. By "bland" I don't mean should be more spicy. I just mean overall lack of any flavor. Save your appetite for the Schnitzel. "Make by Yourselt" doesn't really mean you actually make it. It's just their way to say you can select from a variety of toppings and sauces.
JimGant Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Any good recommendations for out in the Doi Saket area?

Wey-La-Dee is not in Doi Saket, but it is on that side of Chiang Mai. In a small soi behind Thai Watsadu. Link below to their page in the Michelin Guide. Very, very nice food with an emphasis on quality. And careful service, too. https://guide.michelin.com/us/en/chiang-mai-region/chiang-mai/restaurant/we-la-dee I read on this forum that it can get crowded with obnoxious Chinese tourists, but my one experience eating there was pleasant. 1

BEST PLACES TO EAT IN CHIANG MAI I'm looking for something really noteworthy. Price is not a consideration unless it's fabulously overpriced for what you get. Some of the well-known names have their ups and downs quality-wise over time. What's the state of play these days? Thanks I booked ShangriLa Hotel 1
Old Curmudgeon Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 Here's another place to eat in Chiang Mai that hasn't yet been mentioned anywhere on this forum (according to my search): Arno's steak house in Ratchapakinai road. Big variety of steaks. Fine beef. Aged in-house. Cut in-house (i.e. not from Makro). And they understand cooking levels. https://arnosgroup.com/arnos-chiangmai/
mickmac Posted March 1 Posted March 1 Another bread reccomendation:- If you like Sourdough bread try the loaves produced by Lew and Xavier. Check on their website for locations, I use the Stall at Sansai Tong Tung market, open Sat and Sun 10:00 am to 16:00 pm. Don't worry if they are not there at 10 just sit down and have a coffee and wait while they turn up and set up. There are 2 other shops see their facebook page Lew Xavier Bakery or their LEWXAVIERBAKERY.COM website for location of other sites and opening hours. Hope you enjoy. 1

Thank you, I was looking for good sourdough bread! Incidentally, I took a date to Hannah Hahn Cafe and Restaurant and it was a total triumph. The place has even a good breakfast selection, Pizza, Thai food and very nice surroundings. Prices a touch higher but not insane. I guess you pay for the premium ambience. Menu is here: https://hannah-hahn.com/en/menu/
