Thousands of second-hand running shoes were unexpectedly dropped off at Thung Nong Naman park in Udon Thani, drawing locals eager to collect them. Shared initially by Facebook user Charoon Boonjuang, the news spread quickly, and by 8 a.m. on December 19, people had gathered to claim free footwear. Families sorted through piles, carrying their finds home in sacks and on motorbikes.

Local officials, including those from Kut Chap Municipality, helped maintain order as the crowd grew, ensuring everyone got shoes for the upcoming new year festivities. Once satisfied, remaining damaged shoes were set for disposal. Sawanee, a local resident, expressed her happiness at the unexpected gift, noting she hadn't owned trainers for years.

Preecha Thongjun from the Public Health Department noted the shoes, from a six-wheel truck, were likely unsold stock from a recent fair. He appreciated the vendors and suggested informing the community in advance if this happens again for better organization.

This unexpected shoe giveaway brought joy to many, providing a cheerful start to the new year celebrations.
