Foreign Tourist Swallows Traffic Ticket in Odd Pattaya Incident

It costs me $35 Canadian for an international drivers license. I'm curious how much in the fine for driving without a license? And if you get stopped, fined for no license or helmet, do you just get the ticket, and sent in your way, with no license and helmet or are you know looking for a taxi?

Quality tourist.

Probably here on a long term visa learning Muay Thai.

Why do we never hear these nutty tourists in Dubai or Malaysia ?

Probably because it's not exactly headline  news

No you don't. I see only tourists pulled over. Though agree that skin colour likely did not play a part. Just an obvious tourist with no helmet and no shirt.

Nope, when in town I often frequent one of the bars right by that checkpoint late afternoon as it’s good entertainment value watching the BIB go about their business.

Was there only a few days ago and seen them stop a female local who was conservatively dressed and even wearing a helmet. Admittedly I’d say 90% of stops are farangs but I regularly see them stopping their own.

NO VISA REQUIRED

If, as the news above your post says, he is from Britain, he would not have required a visa under the earlier policy as he gets 30 days visa free. So he could still have holidayed here without a visa the same as a million others.

If you’re a Thai, you get a ticket and I think 30 days to pay. If you’re a farang they impound the bike at roadside until you can show that the ticket has been paid and you’re allowed on your way.

Generally in Pattaya they’ll fine you 500B for each offence although the official rate is lower. It’s not worth arguing though unless you want to waste a few hours of your time in the station.

Are the police the same as UK police and not trained in restraint?

Try that in Sydney Australia  and unfortunately and I do say unfortunately they would of used their chokehold procedures ( which should be banned) to put him on the ground

What were they going to do if he walked away like he was doing ?

Lack of training ?

“would of”?

Firs off she said "person of color" at the very start (คนผิวสี). not talking about the text or anything.

We stopped saying "colored person" decades ago (wikipedia say it may be considered a slur)  but now "person of color" is acceptable according to our masters so which is it? Is she using the American racial slur from the 60s "colored person" or the modern American term "person of color" to describe a non-white person?

just admit it she's copying political correct nonsense from America. Probably watches American news and picked up the term. So what?

For the last time, she did not say "person of color" in the intro. She referred to the guy as a "person with colored skin" which you erroneously, and in your eagerness to jump on the anti-woke bandwagon, misinterpreted as "person of color." At least two other posters have tried to explain this to you as well. If you're going to just pursue a hard headed ideological agenda I can't stop you, but when you pose a question about the Thai language as you did, at least have the decency and intellectual honesty to appreciate it when people try to improve your understanding of the language.

I have heard Thais use the term "Chocolate man" in English. I don't think it was meant to be racist in any way. Rather a lack of vocabulary in what is not their mother tongue... But I might be wrong.

They definitely have a variety of vocabulary to refer to people "of color", "with colored skin", or "black" people. But yeah, I agree with you in doubting that they meant "chocolate man" in any sort of racist way. It actually sounds complimentary, to me.
