Black mould after recent wet weather.

Featured Replies

Has anyone else noticed that black mould, a part of living in such a humid, tropical environment, seems particularly bad this year?

I always seem to get an outbreak in the bathroom during the wet season, but this year it has also started sprouting up on several bedroom ceilings. Even though I use the air con.

I  have been using diluted Hydrogen Peroxide in a spray to clean all walls and ceilings, but does anyone have any other ideas on what I might use? Especially on the grouting in the shower.

TIA

100% the best thing to use to kill black mould is tea tree oil. In a 500 ml spray bottle, mix water with two teaspoons of tea tree oil (you can get it on Lazada). This is hands down the very best way to kill mould.

Because it's natural, there seems to be a lack of awareness about how bad mould is for your health. It's terrible and ongoing exposure to mould can cause all sorts of health issues. So do everything you possibly can to kill it!

Do you have a good air circulation in your bathroom ? And most bathroom exhaust fans blow all to under roof that cause high humidity over all rooms ceiling. My house exhaust fans connected by ducts to outside, not under the roof (usually cheap contractors do for saving money).

Spray bleach to all tiles, but don't breath it in.

I have been using Hydrogen Peroxide, but plan to try Tea Tree Oil as suggested by earlier poster. i used it once to treat a toenail fungal infection, so I know if works on fungi. also good as an antiseptic, but must be diluted.

Mold in bathroom comes from bad ventilation, do you have a PAX fan?

I have windows which I do open, but in the humid wetter months I never bother.

Consider making a Venthole with a PAX fan

Thanks for the suggestion, but these  are almost 8' x 4' double glazed sliding doors. I looked into it, and it seems I might have to order new double glazed units with the hole already cut in them. Likely very expensive.

My only solution as I can see it is to open the doors every time someone takes a shower, I will get a builder to have a look and see what he can suggest, as I can'r see a way to fit an extractor fan.

I had good luck with tea tree oil in a diffuser.  A guy I worked with in the oil business sold a pretty expensive style of tea tree oil diffuser that was designed for offshore platforms.  Worked great in my small Bangkok apartment.  They sell smaller units on Lazada, and I'd probably go with one in each room and bathroom.

Have in mind that most of the building contractors in Thailand usually use the lowest grade grout to fix the tiles despite the fact that a good quality does not cost all that much more.  No secret that most of those in the construction or home upgrading business are usually a bunch of...

A magical formula however against mould is ventilate, ventilate and ventilate.

A bathroom heater on the wall near the shower helps or a wall mounted fan, if there is no proper ventilation.

You are very right Sir. Also fixed a wall fan near my shower and all the issues were solved.
