I certainly won't refute that statement.

 

However, do the airline pilots shown in that video I posted seem crazy? Is this a sufficient explanation? I am sure that to many people, it will, if only for convenience purposes.

 

A few of these pilots actually confess to never having actually thought about it, are not even aware of the “eight inches per mile squared” principle or what this should entail in terms of compensating/dipping the plane, and find themselves pretty surprised and unable to respond.

 

It's a very interesting vdeo to watch.

 

(And before anyone tells me "it's just 19 pilots out of XXX in the world", again, I have many more such testimonies.

It's more than 11,000 Kilometers between the two.  They aren't exactly close by.  There must be dozens or hundreds of other cities closer to Auckland without direct flights.  For example, Chiang Mai is closer, but no direct flight to Auckland.

There are flights from Johannesburg to Sydney, which is not much different.  Just a bit closer and much bigger cities.  So hopefully that helps you get over your confusion.

Trips in the Northern Hemisphere are much shorter than trip of the same distance in the Southern Hemisphere. Can't get away from that.

Eight inches sounds about right to me. Although a light might be useful. Can a lazer be directed across the great lakes from Canada to the US? If it can, then that's a long distance. And a whole different jar of mustard.
