A Thai man fatally attacked his wife in a rice field in the Isaan province of Ubon Ratchathani on Sunday, 22 December, claiming she pranked him by rubbing menstrual blood on his mouth. The deceased woman’s relative expressed doubt about his account.

The 35 year old Thai man, Phanumart Manee-on, surrendered himself to officers at Khueang Nai Police Station following the death of his wife, 35 year old Pawinee Sangkasi. Phanumart later led police to the scene of the incident in a paddy field in the Khueang Nai district of Ubon Ratchathani.

At the scene, police discovered Pawinee’s body near a small cottage in the rice field. The report did not specify the wounds or bruises found on her body.

Phanumart told police that he and his wife had been drinking alcohol near the cottage. According to him, Pawinee, who was intoxicated, pranked him by smearing menstrual blood on his mouth. Enraged, he reacted by repeatedly kicking and punching her.

Phanumart claimed that his wife collapsed and lost consciousness. He waited at the scene, assuming she would regain consciousness, but she died there.

Pawinee’s niece expressed strong disbelief in Phanumart’s account during an interview with Channel 8. She revealed that Phanumart frequently assaulted Pawinee.

According to the niece, relatives or witnesses always intervened in their past violent altercations, preventing escalation. In this instance, however, no one was present to witness or intervene, which tragically led to Pawinee’s death.

Police are yet to confirm Phanumart’s account, results of an autopsy are expected to determine the accuracy of his claims.

Phanumart was charged under Section 290 of the Thai Criminal Code for physical assault resulting in death. If convicted, he faces a prison sentence of three to 15 years.

Light the touch paper and boom !

3-15 years for abuse leading to murder. This justice system is definitely flawed. Hope he gets jail justice served to him as he did to his wife.
