Gaza Famine Alert Retracted Amid Diplomatic Backlash & Incorrect Data

A famine warning for northern Gaza issued by the Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET), a USAID-funded initiative, has been withdrawn following criticism from U.S. officials and Israeli authorities. The report, published earlier this week, painted a dire picture of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, citing figures from the United Nations and warning of a "near-total blockade" leading to food insecurity for tens of thousands of Palestinians but replied on flawed data.

FEWS NET initially reported that between 65,000 and 75,000 civilians in northern Gaza faced severe risk under the ongoing Israeli siege. The report emphasized the precarious situation of those "unable to or prevented from evacuating" amidst limited humanitarian and commercial food supplies.

However, the U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Jacob Lew, publicly rebuked the report, labeling its data "outdated and inaccurate." In a statement, Lew explained, "We have worked closely with the Government of Israel and the UN to provide greater access to the North Governorate, and it is now apparent that the civilian population in that part of Gaza is in the range of 7,000-15,000, not 65,000-75,000 which is the basis of this report."

The Israeli regulatory body for Gaza, COGAT (Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories), provided even lower estimates, stating that the population in the affected area was between 5,000 and 9,000. Meanwhile, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) offered a higher estimate of 10,000 to 15,000 civilians.

COGAT also criticized the unnamed report on social media, asserting it "deliberately and inaccurately ignores the extensive humanitarian efforts made by Israel in the northern Gaza Strip" and "creates a false representation for the international community." The agency declined to respond to further inquiries regarding the FEWS NET publication.

The swift withdrawal of the report has raised questions about the balance between accurately reporting humanitarian conditions and navigating diplomatic pressures. While FEWS NET has not commented publicly on its decision to remove the report, the retraction underscores the sensitive nature of information dissemination during times of conflict.

The initial warning by FEWS NET, though now retracted, highlights the urgent need for clarity and accountability in assessing the situation in northern Gaza. As both Israeli authorities and international organizations debate the severity of the crisis, the lives of those trapped in the besieged area remain at risk, leaving the international community with an ongoing challenge to provide effective and timely aid.

Why Muslim sources and not Jewish? You trust those photos in the Jewish News Syndicate?  What incredible bias! You don't think Israel uses propaganda? They've been bombing and blockading Gaza for over a year. What do you think the likely effects of that might be, in addition to the deaths of over 45,000 civilians, and the wounding of over 100,000? The only reason they can get away with it is because of the White House's fanatical supporter for fanatical Israelis. And the blind support from islamophobes such as you.

Once you've done that then absolutely, my sources will be linked to, or you could just find them yourself, there's a new topic about it but I see you have real difficulties with facts

Palestinian side caught lying yet again .

All their baseless claims need to be fully investigated for honesty and truthfulness

FEWS.NET is an American sponsored organisation. They published the famine alert, not the Palestinians. But of course the American ambassador and Israel don't like any adverse publicity, even their own.

Actually it was UNRWA that confirmed the data is wrong and agreed with the US officials rather than the report.

Check it out. Read the sources. You're just reading the US/Israeli reactions.

Why not read the OP, its all in there. Fews claimed 65-70k there. Wrong, that's the facts. Even UNRWA disagreed with them. Still waiting for your link in the other OP for your claim that 45,000 civilians have been killed........

Your sources are all Israeli biased. Even the Colombia professors are. But as I said before, FEWS is a division of USAID. So don't blame the Palestinians if the US gets it's facts wrong, which incidentally, I don't believe it has. It wasn't the Palestinians who produced this report. Right?

Here's the link again. I don't see any sign of a retraction.

Any info published by muslims is not to be trusted and likely propaganda to gather pity from the world thru an outlet like Aljazeera.  Let the rich Arab oil countries provide for their own instead of bilking the west who are broke themselves.

Information from Israel is completely trustworthy though? It's just the one side using propaganda, right?

And more distortion from you. This was an entirely US backed report and it was only when they read it did they and the Israeli government throw up their hands in horror and hastily get the counteroffensive of denial and denigration going. Obviously they've tried to totally discredit it. But it won't work. The cats been out of the bag for a very long time.

Translation: If it accuses Israel of something, it is a lie. Sort of like the blood libel the National Socialists love.

Where did FEWS.NET get their info from ?

Really doesn't matter where they come from , they can be a pro Palarstiand group from the USSA deliberately  spreading lies about what is happening in Gaza , bit I expect that FEWS.NET got all their info from a Palestinian source inside Gaza

Search as I might I can't find any retraction by FEWS, only references to it by 3rd parties. Where does FEWS announce its retraction? Not on their website as far as I can see. The Nov 12th post is the last on the subject there. Maybe you have a link to it?
