After reading the thread again I realize It seems i may be trying to bring my own idea of what BKK should be to the table.

Time to jump in and just see and enjoy what is on offer rather than what I think it should be!

Nicely put. Basically you've summarized the whole issue of "why this beer tastes like a piss?".

Great list.  I see about a dozen that I listen to and many that I know but never listened to much and of course, many that I don’t know.

Out of that list, the only song that I have ever seen played would be White Stripes Seven Nation Army .  One Thai friend who was a drummer knew Rage and Chili Peppers but I don’t know if any of their songs were on his repertoire.  The only other bands he was interested in when he heard them were the Pumpkins, Janes Addiction and Primus (not on your list).  INXS, Beck, B52s and Depeche Mode didn’t strike a chord with the Thais I have known.

Most of the music that seems to find its way over here is depressingly mainstream (I had to listen to Maroon 5 played over and over at a club next to my condo way back when in Chiang Mai).

I’ll be checking out YouTube now for some of the bands that I’ve never listened to.  Thanks for the list!

Sorry that I can’t recommend any clubs in Bangkok.  Tinnitus keeps me away from live music these days.  Hope you find some that suits you

Taiwanese women are they shiest people I have ever met. On several occasions just attempting to talk to them they would literally "freeze". I found them to be very sheltered.

I must have been lucky then. Some 40 years ago I was there and checked into a dump called the White House Hotel. Nearby I found a Cafe serving breakfast. Toast , ham eggs etc. The waitress wanted to practice her English. Took me out in the evening after work to show me some MTV places she enjoyed. I ended up moving in with her a week later. In the meantime I was also befriended by two female students who also showed me around. All in all I found the local women refreshingly open and honest and all insisted on American shares for everything. Even bought me gifts !

As for music, nice list but check out some new Indy stuff. A lot out there.

YouTube  Solarium by The Groovy Nobody. Others of note , Skinshape , common saints , psychedelic octopus. Far Caspian....too many to list.

And yes, Saxophone club is good. Been there forever.
