I am very sceptical regarding the ETA thing they talk about. Asking for finances and addresses when I already have a retirement non-O and they know everything already! I wonder how they will fix that when I want to return after a "holiday" in Europe on a re-entry visa already given! They are just making too much BS now-a-days!

Who am I to be "debunking " the myths but let me say this .

I believe Thailand will lose a lot of British expats because of the frozen pension and Philippines will become more popular as will Vietnam

I agree with most except 2. I see too many poor people that smoke and drink and do nothing to help themselves. I only want to help those that want to better themselves.

I disagree. IMO it's going to be a depression and one that will make the 1930s one look like a recession. Why? because there are too many people that contribute nothing to society- just drones, and we know what happens to drones.

Like the 1930s, it will affect the entire human world, and like the 1930s will end in a world war. IMO.

You could well be right, the way things are going at present.

 

But it is not ineluctable. A determined few with a clear vision of what is needed can change the course of history.

 

The drone society was created in large measure by self-interested politicians who seek votes, while at the same time garnering the sponsorship of the rentier-capitalists (financial spoilers, not constructive builders).  Such politicians are the antithesis of statesmen.

 

One must try to distinguish those who seek to draw benefits from society while contributing nothing from those who contribute as best they can but who may need some support at times.  As during inevitable economic downturns.

 

E.g. when Winston Churchill, as Chancellor of the Exchequer in 1911, in Lloyd George's Cabinet, laid the foundations of retirement pensions and unemployment benefit, these were contributory benefits for the labouring classes, little able to organise such things for themselves.  Contributions came from workers, employers, and government.

 

Churchill was of course ostracised and vilified by his own class.  And he would continue to be disdained long after by the Thatcherites and their asset-strippers.

Economic cycles have always occured, way back in history.  We are in a pickle right now because our governments think they can break the cycle.  They are simply storing up much greater chaos and distress for when their efforts finally meet dismal failure.  I suspect that moment may be near.

 

One of the failures of vision of so-called socialist governments is a failure to appreciate that well-being requires a substantial measure of material wealth.  Which is derived from productive work and commerce at all levels of society.  It cannot be created by government edict.

Agree. Without getting into the realm of conspiracy theories, it seems strange to me that while you and I can see all that, our rulers seem oblivious to it. I prefer to believe that they are aware of it, but for reasons I will not delve into here, they will do nothing about it.

 

Regardless, I an certain that a new depression is coming, and it's going to get really bad for most that are not already very rich. They get to live in gated communities protected by militarised police while the rest of us get the dirty end of the stick. If you have seen Zardoz, you know what I'm talking about, and likely the end will be what happens in reality.
