What Books Are You Reading ? (2025)
Blake Crouch - Recursion Recommended read for the rest of you: The Great Game: On Secret Service in High Asia by Peter Hopkirk It reads like a good yarn but it's not fiction. It reinforces the fact that the British have hated Russian for a number of centuries. It's nothing new. And the fact that countries go to war to plunder weaker country's resources. Excellent read though. -

American on Dirt Bike Kills Thai Woman Crossing Road in Chiang Mai
What about the other hypotheses..... including.. a. Two motorcycles riding down the road within the speed limit. b. As they approach the lady is preoccupied and steps out into the road without looking. c. American male ridding the CRF collides with the lady knocking her over. d. The impact is low speed (no damage to bike, bike isn't dropped). e. Lady falls and bangs her head and dies. f. American is distraught - and of course shows his compassion (this is not an admission of guild). e. Polite arrive, follow SOP and automatically charge the American with 'reckless driving / riding causing death' (this is not an indication of fault). Anything is possible, there is no solid information or footage... BUT, one thing is for certain... Bikes don't come out of nowhere - thats just an excuse made up by people who failed to look / failed to observe an approaching bike because they were complacent. -

Revenue Department boss calls on tax residents in Thailand to file 2024 returns by March 31
That would technically still be potentially taxable for you, depending on whether remitted funds are identified as assessable. Regardless of what account the funds are deposited into, they are still under your control when they cross the border, so the remittance is yours. You remit, you pay tax if due. Wife does not pay under 20 million, 5% over that. Some advisors recommend gifting to an offshore account in the wife's name. Would be non-taxable for you (depending on your home country gifting rules) as giver, and non-taxable for your wife until she remits to Thailand, and then would still fall under gift receiving rules for her. On gifting - get professional advice. In Thailand you are assessed and taxed on funds remitted to yourself or earned by yourself in Thailand. If the funds are not remitted to you or earnt by you, how can they be taxed? Nothing has hit your Thai bank account. In my understanding, with the right construct, it's possible to gift EITHER to an overseas account of your wife (and she subsequently remits that Thailand, as you have stated), or directly to her Thai account, with zero Thai tax implications for the giftor.- 1
