Now, if he was on weed, this would not happen....5555.

More whataboutery.

If he was not in Thailand it would not have happened.

If it was in a different place it would not have happened.

Perhaps if it was a different joke it would not have happened.

If he was a different nationality it would not have happened.

More pointless whatabouteries from me.

You have no idea WHY it happened, so why bother to post in the first place?

Curious about the nationality of the individuals of the other group... Ukrainians? Thai?

More likely fellow Russian draft-dodgers.

I've actually never encountered a Russian trying to make a joke, as I find them to be some of the most dour and humorless people on the planet. So perhaps they did not even consider the possibility that he was using humor?

Yep.

I've had Russians explain to me that they don't really joke, nor do they smile or talk to strangers.  It's a cultural defensive trait to never get noticed or get in troubke.

I doubt a Russian would just start to joke with people at another table.  And alcohol would not be a factor.

Russian: Hey Ukrainian, want to hear a joke?

Ukrainian: OK.

Russian: Crimea.

Ukrainian: I don't get it.

Russian: You will never get it.

Stab.

I see that many people here think that this is a quarrel between a Russian and a Ukrainian.
But it is almost impossible for a Ukrainian man to leave the country now.
I would suppose that both of them are Russians.
When I came to Russian Consulate in Phuket to vote for the national leader in the previous year I found out that many people in the queue looked disapprovingly at the Z symbols on my clothes. Although Vladimir Putin also won the election in Phuket, the margin over his competitor was minimal. While tourists from Russia voted correctly, expats voted like traitors.

So I would assume that this was a quarrel between an expat and a tourist, and both of them are Russian citizens.

And I also assume that Z guy is a victim and he was just defending himself.

actually,  I've never really found Thai's to have a sense of humor as they just don't get jokes,   but maybe he needs to practice the way he tells jokes.

If it was a Thai that stabbed him,  he's lucky he didn't bring his gun,   and that's no joke

Different cultures have different humour, Thais, like the Americans don't get subtle humour it has to be in your face but Thais are easy to take offence at anything to do with their or the country's dignity.

Police have documented the scene and advised the victim to formally file a complaint once he recovers.

They usually make lots of paper, charge you 20 baht for the notice that the complaint is accepted and that's all - staying at their desks waiting for another paperwork...

They don't start to joke but they can start talking to you in Russian (the majority of them don't speak any foreign language) and being irritated you don't understand them thus don't "respect" them...

You've apparently never had any Russian friends.... Hard to imagine, even if never having had any Russian friends, that one could think that there's such a large group of human beings with no sense of humor. Context is everything. Cultural context makes things complicated, but it doesn't take away the human nature from people.

Stab.

A single stab is better than killing civilians or shooting down passenger planes (not for the first time). Perhaps the Russian simply lacked the experience of living among civilization. History shows that this is close to the Russians.
