A strange occurrence claimed the life of a 42-year-old man after he fell from his bed and sustained fatal burns while sleeping near a fire lit for warmth.

The incident occurred in Nong Kathin Village, Si Suk Subdistrict, Sri Narong District, and was reported early on the morning of 8 January. Responding to the call, members of the Surin News Association’s Disaster Relief Department, medical examiners from Sri Narong Hospital, and officers from Sri Narong Police Station attended the scene.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered the man lying face down in the remains of the fire. He was wearing a long-sleeved blue shirt, and his face and head showed severe burn injuries. His legs were still resting on the bed, indicating that he had fallen off while asleep and his body had no other visible injuries.

Relatives confirmed that the deceased had no underlying health conditions, but did drink and expressed no suspicions surrounding his death. It is believed that the man, like many others in rural areas during the cold season, had lit a fire to stay warm during the night, as he slept outdoors. Unfortunately, this common practice appears to have resulted in his death.

The body was sent to hospital for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death and will be released to the family if no suspicious circumstances are found.

Authorities are reminding the public of the dangers of using open flames for heating during the winter months. They urge residents to ensure fires are either extinguished or in a safe location, before sleeping and to take precautions to avoid similar incidents.

Pished, rolled out of bed into the fire and didn't wake up?

Good question.  No alcohol involved?

Man Dies in Warming Fire Incident in Surin

Happens every year.  Most often by carbon monoxide poisoning.  But then you also get the inebriated ones who fall into fires and are too drunk to know they are burning to death.  Freaking sad.
RIP.  Sounds like a Darwin Award winner of the week.

Carbon Monoxide Poisoning from a Gas Fire etc in an enclosed space, I get.

(we have a CO monitor for when we go camping in cold weather in the UK and use a gas heater),

But... to fall out of bed, roll into a fire and burn - without waking up ???....  How out of it does one have to be ????

Is it even possible to be 'that out of it' - that you would notice you've rolled into a fire ?? (I guess it is).

Totally drunk, wrapped up in a blanket too tight, falls with his feet stuck on the wooden bed, unable to break free?
