Endoscopy & Colonoscopy recomendations

Hello. I need to have an endoscopy (and maybe Colonoscopy but that's not as crucial) done and wondering if anyone had any recommendations.

I need to avoid the high end private hospitals as 20-30k+ is too much.

Can anyone recommend any lower end private hospitals or fairly decent government hospitals and any doctor recommendations? 

Is it possible to get endoscopy and Colonoscopy for 10-15k these days, don't even mind travelling out of Bangkok if needed.

 

Any advice appreciated.

No recommendation, as having mine (both) done about 5 yrs ago, and for ~12k 'each', I think.   Surely some folks will chime in with more current info.

I recommend you gird your loins and prepare for a NASTY 2-5 days after an endoscopy. Had one done last year, the doc warned me of some "slight discomfort" for a few days after. I was pissing razor blades for 2 days and a lot more than slight discomfort for a few more days.

The price seems to depend on whether anesthetic is involved. Being put to sleep during the procedure IME hikes the price by about 50,000 baht.

My gf did both in Bumrungrad hospital around a month ago. Around 37k with 10% voucher discount. The equipment and level of service was similar to the Sydney North Shore private hospital where I did mine 8 months ago. I had a look around and most of the big  private hospitals were asking similar prices.

 

Depending on your home country you may be able to do it cheaper there.

hate to say it - lucky me or lucky both my docs are/were good. had the bladder one done at Bangkok hospital phuket a year ago. no discomfort post op.  the other one, I have done each 6 months, via the sinus, to check that my throat cancer has not returned. where did they proble you? are you sure it was not an alien abduction. ?

Why would that cause feeling of pissing razorblades?

Govt hospitals will do it cheaper, friend went to Queen Sirikit recently, was fine, can't recall the price

I suspect you are referring to a urologic endoscopy whereas I think OP means gastric endoscopy i.e. gastroscopy.

Please use specific terms rather than "endoscopy" as it leads to replies about very different procedures.

 

I assume you mean endoscopy of the stomach i.e. gastroscopy.

 

To get this done at the price you mention, will have to use a government hospital.  The best  option in Bangkok is Chulabhorn Hospital. Colonoscopy is under 10k (6-7K last I heard but that is some years ago) there and I would assume gastroscopy is about the same.

About 4 years ago, I had both done at the same time under general anesthetic at Mahachai Hospital (private) at Mahachai (about 2-3kms west of Central Mahachai, opposite side of road, travelling out of Bangkok).  Procedure in mid morning, out of hospital about 2 hours later).   Came back for results  the following weeks.  Some polyps were removed and checked for cancer.

 

Total cost was about 20K Baht, for memory.

The Gastro Doctor at Bangkok Pattaya Hospital quoted me 18,000b for the  Colonoscopy  in  2024 which was a lot cheaper than the Sriracha hospitals at that  time, being put to sleep for the procedure too

Just for price comparison: 3 weeks ago my b/f (age 35) had a gastroscopy & a colonoscopy done here in Prasat Surin at the very good public hospital.

 

One night & 2 half-days in hospital: doctor's fee 3000 + hospital hospitality 3000. Total 6000฿.

 

I had a colonoscopy done at the private hospital in Surin 18 months ago. Held prisoner 2 nights & paid 68000฿.

Had both done, my firsts, at a government hospital in Sisaket province. Everything cost 7000.

My only experience is with BK Hospital Pattaya.

 

August 2024: 34,000 THB total.

Includes BOTH colonoscopy and endoscopy.

Not including first office appointment

Not including any fol-up appointment to review biopsy 

34k THB for the procedure only.

 

The pre & post appointments were about 2k THB each.

Why would you have to stay in the hospital for 2 nights, I have had 5,  one every 5 years since I turned 50 years old, went in the morning, about 8 am then out 11 am, then go home. Go back 5 days later for results.

I think my last sentence answers your question.

 

More generally, I think that Thai medics don't trust Thai patients to follow the instructions for the 24 or 48 hours before the procedure takes place. In my observation they are not entirely wrong-minded in that regard.

3 days in hospital for an endoscopy, wow, was there complications. Had mine done at Phyathai Sri Racha. They had an offer on at the time, but I'm sure it ended up a little over 20k fortunately my insurance paid for it. In and out same day very professional, I thought.

Again - need to avoid using the term endoscopy by itself since there are a very large number of procedures, involving different organs, that are endoscopic

 

Quite possible what that poster had was some type of endoscopic surgery nto a simple gastroscopy or colonoscopy.

My wife and I have used Princess Chulabhorn Hospital for many years... handy as we live quite near. Last July she had a look up and a look down. I've just checked and it was 8520 Baht.  It was done in normal time ...not extra clinic.

 

In the past I have also had the same done. Every five years I have the look up and usually ask for look down at the same time and I recall that the price was somewhat similar.

 

To use you need to register. Then see a general doctor, that is walk in so you may be 2-3m hours. He will then send you to the appropriate clinic to arrange to see a specialist.  Then you will have a choice, Normal Clinic or Extra Clinic. Normal clinic is about 100Baht and Extra Clinic is about 500Baht. There will be a waiting list for both but Extra Clinic is usually very quick to see the doctor. 

 

He will then tell you the waiting times for Normal and Exter Clinic and the prices if no polyps etc to test.

 

The price I mentioned is ... for you to know nothing about it.  You are in and out the same day ...only a few hours in total.
