A 72-year-old man, a highly respected agricultural leader in Phatthalung, was fatally shot in an attack on a rural road in Khuan Khanun district. Police are investigating the incident and suspect the motive may be linked to a recent drug-related arrest in the area.

The victim, identified as Mr. Phob, was the owner of a prominent agricultural learning centre and a salak orchard. He was also recognised as an outstanding farmer in Khuan Khanun district. The attack occurred on Soi Bo Pla in Ban Khuan Tin, Moo 5, Pantae subdistrict.

Police, led by Pol. Lt. Col. Wichai Amphun, investigator at Khuan Khanun Police Station, and Pol. Lt. Col. Hanphon Ramduang, deputy superintendent of investigations, were alerted at 18:30. When officers arrived, they found only a pool of blood at the scene. Mr. Phob had already been rushed to Khuan Khanun Hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after due to six gunshot wounds to his torso, back, neck, and hand.

According to preliminary investigations, locals reported hearing six gunshots but initially mistook the sounds for firecrackers. Concerned when her husband did not return home, the victim’s wife went to look for him and discovered him lying unconscious in a pool of blood on the road leading to his orchard. His motorcycle with a sidecar was found nearby, bearing bullet damage to its rearview mirror. Neighbours assisted in transporting him to the hospital.

Mr. Phob was described as a hardworking, kind individual who had no known conflicts with anyone. However, police suspect the shooting may be related to an earlier arrest of a local man for drug and firearm offences. Authorities believe the suspect may have blamed Mr. Phob for tipping off the police. The individual in question has since fled the village, and police are actively pursuing leads to locate and apprehend him.

The investigation continues, with police determined to bring the perpetrator to justice.

No known conflicts except one.... and that's all it takes.

Some one didn't agree with that.
