Anecdotal information and doesn't address my point to you about businesses not wanting to accept foreign credit cards because of fraud risks. But doesn't matter. Leave it at that.

In its prime role, the one in which it was conceived and intended, Wise is absolutely perfect. I started using them following the demise of the embassy income letters some 4 years ago. I've been doing 2 or 3 transfers from my UK bank account via Wise ever since and they have never let me down.

 

And it's even more convenient now that they have developed standing orders for transfers. I can just sit back and watch the money roll in. What is they to complain about? Nothing as far as I'm concerned.

My complaint is Last Summer was the last time I used Wise and it took them 6 days to transfer the money from the US to Thailand so I quit using them

What will happen will depend on the circumstances.

As has been said if you make a payment for goods in a currency that you hold on the Wise card there will be no fee, as transaction fees are paid by the merchant. I have come across companies that will increase the price if you pay by card to cover that fee.

If however the transaction is processed in any other currency there will be a small  conversion fee. For example you have GBP, EUR and USD available and you make a purchase in EUR and there is insufficient EUR balance to cover the amount, Wise will take the difference from either the GBP or USD balance, which would mean a currency conversion.

Cash withdrawals are a different matter. Wise will allow 2 withdrawals a month up to £200 without fee, fees would be applied to withdrawals outside the allowance. It should  be borne in mind that ATM's may impose a fee from the provider which has nothing to do with Wise. I believe all ATM's in Thailand have fees imposed by the provider, some a  bit cheaper than others.

I have had my card for some time now and find it invaluable when travelling, getting a beer in a foreign airport has become so much easier and cheaper. With my UK bank card, faced with a non sterling transaction fee an their version of the exchange rate.

To get a physical Wise card, you'll need a proxy in the UK able to send you the card upon reception.

However you could just go for the Wise virtual cards for online payments and wallets.

Revolut does send cards worldwide and offers virtual cards as well.

Revolut is deffo a good choice for card payments. Based on my research it is actually the best option out there as long as you don't withdraw with it. Just remember it's a DC and not a CC. This type of authorization-required card might be a problem for things like renting a car ( I think you need a proper CC for that).

Revolut is a good choice but you might wanna look for something else when it comes to withdrawals. Revolut gets pretty expensive on large withdrawals.

Yes - that is true for some rental car companies in my experience. 

 

A couple of years ago, in Northern Ireland, I showed up at the rental car company to pick up my rental car.  I passed them my Wise debit card and they immediately handed it back, and stated I needed to pass them a credit card instead (they would not accept a debit card).  (Then it was a mad scramble to dig out a credit card and further try to remember my credit card transaction 'authorization' code).

I clear gave a valid reply if you can read and comprehend English. Many business are starting to charge the user a 3 to 5 % fee if you use a credit card.  Is that simple enough. Do you own a store or part of a business  that has to deal with this?

 

  Fraud is fraud and can happen a multitude ways.  That's all I have to say so you can troll way and look for another victim as usual

Is there a way to freeze the physical Wise card when it`s not being used so it can`t be hacked and money stolen . Or , is there a way of keeping money in a separate part of Wise and transferring into the active account when needed ?

Yes, the answer is yes to both questions.

 

To freeze your card in the app, click on the second icon at the bottom labeled Cards. From there, you can freeze the card. If you scroll down slightly under the card, you’ll see a section called Spending. Here, you can select which currency account or currency jars the card is allowed to spend from.

 

If you want to keep the bulk of your money separate from your active spending account, you can use something called Jars. To create a jar, go to the same section where you would add a new currency to your account. From there, you can create jars for any currency you want.

 

Once the jar is created, navigate to it from the Home tab. The jar will appear on the top row. Click on the jar, then select Add to transfer money from your active account into the jar. You can move as much money as you like into the jar, effectively isolating it for security purposes.

 

Finally, return to the Cards section, go back to Spending, and ensure the card does not have access to the new jar you created. By doing this, you’ll keep your funds separate from your main spending account and inaccessible to the card.

When i recently set up jars Wise say they aren't linked to the card, by default.

 

When you say go back to Spending do you mean transactions?

Correct, by default, when you create a new jar, it’s not automatically linked to the card. You need to do that manually if you want the card to have access to the jar. However, in my case, there have been times when I checked what was linked to the card and found some jars linked that I don’t recall linking myself. So, I suggested this more as a precautionary measure.

No, I don’t mean transactions. If you’re on the “Cards” tab and see your card displayed, scroll down a bit. Underneath the card, you’ll find some settings options. One of those options is called Spending. If you click on Spending, you can designate which currencies and jars you want the card to use and have access to. My suggestion is the fewer you link then the better. But you can update these settings on the fly at any time going back and forth, which is something I do often.

 

In my Wise account, I hold multiple currencies, but I usually only have the Thai Baht spending account activated for my card. But here is a typical example of when I would change that setting temporarily: If I want to purchase something on Amazon priced in US dollars, and my US dollars spending account isn’t linked to the card, then Wise will deduct the amount from me in Baht for the payment to Amazon in dollars. To avoid this, I link the US dollars spending account to the card temporarily, just before making the Amazon purchase. This ensures that Wise deducts dollars instead of Baht for the Amazon transaction. Then I disable dollars again, once the transaction has been completed. 
 

Another time I switch that around is when I'm traveling overseas. Once I'm outside of Thailand, then I disable the Thai baht spending account linked to the card and then I enable the spending account of the local currency of the country that I'm traveling in.

That goes for Revolut as well. They also have a savings account you can transfer money to, done in a second, and you can't withdraw that with any card before you transfer it back to your main account. Without any limits.

 

In addition to putting a temporary lock on any card of course, another option both Wise and Revolut have.

Good stuff. I assume most online banks and Fintech companies offer those options now. N26 Bank also offers the same type of functions.

You can see the Spending function below the card in the app. There are also more settings below it if you scroll down in the app, but unfortunately you can't see them all in this limited screen shot. All the settings fall under "Manage Card" undereath the card as you can see.

If you can't get it working then you can send them a support ticket and hopefully they can explain why. Click on Home, then click on your avatar in the upper left corner of the screen. Then click on Help and scroll down to the bottom and there is a "Contact us" option where you can eventually send them a support message or request a call back.

Jars have balances and just checked the app and it's up to date

It's a personal account, i wonder what other functionality is missing, anyway I don't need it, if i do I'll contact Wise thanks
