Yes, keeping out the riff-raff, but....

I read sometime back that most of the Burmese Generals launder gamble in Singapore and have other interests there.

Singapore does excellent PR work on being a clean city. And on the whole it is.

But it is not quite so squeaky clean when big bucks are involved.

It is the only place where I have lived, where I was also offered drugs. In the pub, next to my apartment.

Even here on Samui and when I lived in Bangkok - nothing.

Just like the pile of feast(dumped on the street) attracting all of the cockroaches.

And casino, usually Sucks Out local money to outside.

So some smart municipality rejects it(as happened in the City of Yokohama, Japan years ago).

They are certainly clever.

Can you imagine thousands of crazed Chinese gamblers on a rampage through Thai cities ? Because that is what it will be.  Plus, it will be very bad for the Thai gamblers themselves as their mentality cannot handle gambling / loosing nicely.i would say it’s the worse possible thing that could happen to Thailand. I live in an area where we are surrounded by casinos. I’ve seen what heartbreak and worries it can do to normally intelligent people.

I think Sihanoukville was closed down by the Chinese because the Casinos were built to attract all sorts of  Chinese crooks and money launderers. 
The Chinese literally ruined a sleepy little beach town forever, even expulsing the locals they didn’t need to do their dirty work.

Only the greedy Cambodian politicians should be blamed for ruining Sihanoukville. The Chinese criminals simply took advantage of the opportunities available.

Yes, Singapore is definitely not squeaky clean. In fact Singapore attracted many successful criminals to move there.
