The court in Chumphon, has formally accepted charges against a 30-year-old woman, Ms Jiranthanin Tangkhaw, who was involved in a high-speed car crash that killed a mother and her two children. The horrific incident occurred on 27th November 2024 when Ms Tangkhaw’s BMW, reportedly travelling at 207 kilometres per hour, collided with a motorcycle carrying the victims as they were returning from extra classes.

 

The victims, a mother, her son and her daughter, tragically lost their lives at the scene in Tak Daet Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chumphon.

 

Police investigations revealed a video on the defendant’s dash-cam showing the car reaching 207 km/h. It was further alleged that, after the crash, the driver searched for her missing cat and fled the scene, surrendering to police only seven hours later.

The accused faces six charges, including:

 

• Driving without a licence.

• Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, resulting in fatalities.

• Consuming a Class 1 narcotic (methamphetamine).

• Reckless driving causing death.

• Failing to stop, assist, or report the accident to authorities.

 

Despite multiple invitations for mediation by the provincial prosecutor’s office, the defendant failed to attend. This led to the Chumphon Provincial Prosecutor filing charges in court.

 

On the morning of 15th January, Ms Tangkhaw appeared in court for her hearing. Reports indicate that she was held in a detention cell beneath the courthouse as proceedings took place. Prosecutors presented evidence, and the court accepted the case for trial.

The defendant was accompanied by her parents and a close friend, who is said to own the BMW involved in the crash.

 

Mr Prakrit Rattanapa, 50, the victims’ husband and father, also attended the hearing. Speaking to reporters, he expressed disappointment at the lack of remorse shown by the defendant and her family.

“When I saw her, she didn’t acknowledge me. Neither she nor her mother greeted me or expressed any regret for what happened. They acted as though nothing had occurred,” he said.

 

Mr Prakrit has filed a separate civil lawsuit, seeking damages amounting to 24 million baht. He also revealed that the bodies of his wife and children are being held at the Chumphon Foundation for Charitable Relief, with funeral arrangements pending further advice from legal representatives.

Now to get the show rolling....hopefully it does get going quickly, but that seems unlikely!

Yes the court does have an option. It means the the court accepts the evidence supports the charges rather than dismissing the case through lack of evidence.

With the apparent evidence, I hope that she is remanded in custody and not free to enjoy life. Not showing up for "mediation" shows that she's a flight risk. I hope we hear full reporting to conclusion and sentencing in this tragic case.

It is their duty to enforce the law and those who commit crimes like this should be get a severe punishment wit or without showing remorse....That is the whole problem in Thailand...no enforcement of laws and punishments....Judges should should be working for the people, instead for the brown envelopes

Searching for her missing cat at 207 km/h. Yeah, nobody will belive that, throw her in jail for a long tome.
