I have just received my new UK passport from VFS in Bangkok. I need to get the stamps transferred at Jomtien Immigration. Historically, I know a letter from the embassy was required: is that still the case? and I have read mention of an application form..... does anyone have a link to it?

thai immigration will give you the form - as for US passport transfers no letter was needed nor was there any cost at CM immigration for them to do it.

I ended up with a EMERGENCY US PP to get my extension renewed. 3 days later my 10 year PP came back from the US

Took both PP's to IMMIGRATION, stamps transfered with no problems

No longer required.  Have a read here.....

I just did it in Pathum Thani and did not need a letter there is a stamp in the passport that tells them what they need to know.  Heck they did not even charge me to do it.

No immigration office should charge for transfer of stamps etc

When I got a new passport at VFS, they gave me a letter t Immigration, asking that ,y existing visa stamps be transferred  to new passport.  Done at my local I/O with no charge.

Some embassies provide a letter to authorize transfer.

Some do not. UK, USA, AU being 3 examples.

Thank you for all the constructive replies! As a follow up:-

once transferred, can I do 90 days online as usual, or do I have to go to immigration?....

and what happens about TM30, do I have to do another, and if so  can I do it online?..

indeed, does my registration for online services even remain valid?

My experience (at Phuket Immigration):

- Stamps trasferred with no problem and no cost, they only asked me a complete copy of old passport and first page of the new one.
- 90 days online did not work, had to do it in person at the drive in counter, five minutes.
- I asked about TM30, after consultation they said me that it was better a new one, and I did it online.

- Registration for online services (90 days and TM30) unchanged

Update:-

So I downloaded the transfer form as above, and made all the copies asked for, for self and wife, plus the VFS Global paperwork, and took the whole lot to Jomtien.

No queue ticket was required, go straight to desk 8, where I was greeted with a friendly smile. "Two passports?". "Yes".

The officer looked through the paperwork, threw back the VFS stuff as irrelevant, gave me two tickets. "Collect them tomorrow after 1:00".   Which I did.

In an abundance of caution, after collecting them, I did online TM30s for myself and my wife under the new passport number, which were accepted by the system. I did a screenprint of the result, to put in the passports by way of proof.

I should add that before I went to Jomtien I did our 90days online, due in a fortnight, under the old passport numbers.
