The government recently launched the Home for Thais scheme and Thaksin stated that around 31 million people have shown interest in participating, with hundreds of thousands already registered.

Interested in what and registered for what ?

Some clarity would be nice.

This is a repeat of the policy that he enacted in the early 2000's through the National Housing Authority (NHA).

It was wildly popular and massively oversubscribed. You can see it throughout Thailand. The housing is referred to as a "kankheha" and is usually either 3 or 4 storey numbered blocks or small houses.

By putting the right person in charge of the NHA, it also offers much opportunity for syphoning off of a certain percentage either to enrich oneself or to pay off political friends.

So, it is popular, resolves a public issue and great corruption opportunities, win-win-win.

I wonder what he's thinking sat in his cell?

Former Thai Social Development and Human Security Minister, Watana Muangsook, was sentenced to 50 years in prison for corruption related to the Baan Eua Arthon low-cost housing project. Initially found guilty in September 2020, Watana was convicted on multiple counts of corruption, with individual sentences totaling 99 years. However, under Thai law, the maximum imprisonment for such offences is capped at 50 years.

Another opportunity to scam goes begging?

Correct, they is one near me, known as Moo Bann Thucksin, Thucksin's village you paid 500 baht/month for 25 years and got your house.

When the coup come only half of the houses were built, that was then, still now a half derelict sight with half the houses still  left from then, the then military government just stopped work over night, anything Thucksin was just left. See photo, taken 4 years ago
