A 70-year-old man died, and his 4-year-old granddaughter sustained severe injuries following a collision between a motorbike and a car in Kanchanaburi on 24 January.

The crash occurred at approximately 14:20 on the bypass road opposite the Pak Phraek Municipal Office in Mueang District. Police from Mueang Kanchanaburi Station, along with paramedics from Phaholpolpayuhasena Hospital, rushed to the scene following a report of the incident.

Upon arrival, rescue workers from the Pitakkanchan Foundation were managing traffic as medical personnel transported the injured child to Phaholpolpayuhasena Hospital. The lifeless body of the motorbike rider, identified as Mr. Thanapoom Khwanyuen, was found in a pool of blood near a U-turn point. His red-grey Honda Wave 110 motorbike lay overturned nearby.

Around 30 metres from the crash site, police found a white Honda Jazz with damage to its front left side, including a shattered windshield. The driver, Mr. Suthat, a teacher at a nearby school, stood waiting to give his statement.

Visibly shaken, Mr. Suthat told police that he was driving from the city centre towards his school, located about 500 metres from the crash site. He claimed the motorbike abruptly cut across his path, leaving him no time to brake before colliding with it. The impact caused the rider to hit the car’s windshield before falling to the ground.

Relatives of the deceased arrived at the scene shortly after being notified, breaking down in tears upon learning of the fatality. The family identified the victim as Mr. Thanapoom, who had picked up his granddaughter, Jirah, from a local childcare centre.

Medical examinations revealed Mr. Thanapoom had suffered fatal head injuries. The child, who sustained serious arm and leg fractures, remains in critical condition.

Police will interview Mr. Suthat and other witnesses while reviewing CCTV footage to determine the exact cause of the crash. Legal proceedings will follow based on the findings of the investigation.

Another day, another motor vehicle death.

Carry on, it's business as usual.....

For those who can afford a car no matter how old it is, should have a better chance to survive an accident.
