Georgealbert Posted Friday at 09:54 PM Posted Friday at 09:54 PM Picture courtesy of ECDD Authorities in Samut Prakan, have uncovered over one million sachets of vitamin C supplements and coffee imported from China, falsely bearing Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval numbers. The products were intended for online distribution and posed significant safety risks to consumers. The operation was led by Pol. Col. Thatphoom Jaruprachya, Acting Commander of the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECDD), along with Pol. Col. Wichak Tarom, Deputy Commander of ECDD, Pol. Col. Chatchawan Chuchaiyarot, Superintendent of Division 2, and Ms. Sasiwee Narakorn, Deputy Director of the Food Division at the Thai FDA. The team raided a warehouse in Bang Bo district, Samut Prakan, following a court warrant. Inside, they discovered sachets of coffee, vitamin C supplements, and other dietary products, totalling over 1 million units. These items were labelled with counterfeit FDA registration numbers, copied from legitimate products to avoid detection. Pol. Col. Thatphoom revealed that the items had been smuggled into Thailand from China without undergoing customs clearance or meeting Thai FDA safety standards. These unregulated products were then prepared for sale on various online platforms. Investigators linked the warehouse to a Chinese-backed business entity involved in logistics operations. The suspected investors and business owners are currently based overseas. Authorities are now working to summon all individuals connected to the case for questioning and legal action. Pol. Col. Thatphoom emphasised the importance of consumer safety, stating, “This operation underscores the dangers posed by unregulated products to public health. We are determined to hold those responsible accountable.” Consumers are advised to remain cautious when purchasing dietary supplements and food products online, ensuring they are verified by the Thai FDA to avoid potential health risks. -- 2025-01-25 1

Bloody Chinese... but whose selling them in Thailand is more worrying?

Speaking of which, remember the owner of a 4 star hotel on Samui that closed during COVID-19 shutdown and the owner got stuck overseas and when they came back it was completely stripped including the modern plate glass walls, basically they took everything down to the bare concrete and loaded it on a ship. $4M USD total loss. 🙃
