My wife and I have been living in the UK for the last 20 years. Our children are both living in Thailand and we are keen to settle in Thailand. My wife is concerned about the healthcare and how ex-pats will be treated. We will have private medical insurance. Can anyone provide their experiences of the medical service and the way in which farangs are treated. Many thanks.

What i will say through experience as a farang, It has nothing to do with the hospital everything depends on the doctor/specialist never let a hospital dictate the doctor, you select your doctor, using  the hospital websites (they should have the bios of all doctors), the excellent service you can receive means you go straight to a specialist and not waste weeks/months dealing with a  GP.

Make sure you keep your international health insurance in place, currently health care costs are going up around  20% per annum

I don't have private med ins.  Have used public & private hospitals, and sadly, the public ones have been stellar.

Don't have a whole lot of nice thing to say about the private ones, except a bit more streamlined and faster service.

Public hosp: 3 excellent (Chula, Hua Hin & Prachuap KK)

Private hosp:

... 1 very good for Check ups (Camillian)

... 2 others, I wouldn't take my dog to

Agree. IMO the only thing the private hospitals have going for them is faster service, and possibly privacy IF paid for.

A recent bout of pneumonia in the Chiang Rai government hospital was managed very professionally, I doubt a private hospital would have done better. 7000 baht.

It also was a lot better than I could expect from a public hospital in Australia.
