Thailand Urges Local Action Against Alarming PM2.5 Pollution Crisis

Thailand is striving to tackle severe PM2.5 air pollution, with the National Health Security Office (NHSO) taking decisive action by urging local administrative bodies, including those in Bangkok, to mobilise resources. The NHSO has encouraged these organisations to utilise their local health security funds to combat the pollution, specifically recommending the purchase of protective masks for vulnerable populations.

 

Dr Jadej Thammatacharee, Secretary-General of the NHSO, highlighted the escalating PM2.5 issue, posing significant health risks. The health minister, who leads the NHSO board, voiced concerns over public health impacts and has implored organisations to initiate anti-pollution projects with swift budget support from the Local Health Security Fund.

 

In a bid to galvanise urgent action, the NHSO dispatched letters to key city leaders, including Bangkok's governor, proposing collaborative efforts to mitigate public health threats from the pervasive air pollution. Dr Jadej pointed out that redirecting existing projects towards pollution prevention could expedite solutions and protect at-risk groups through measures such as educational programmes and distribution of health-grade masks.

 

 

Additionally, coordination with provincial health offices aims to ensure targeted support where it is most needed, while guidance and resources for local implementations are accessible through NHSO regional offices.

 

In a comprehensive effort, the NHSO has also reached out to the Interior Ministry, seeking further cooperation to maximise efforts against PM2.5 pollution, signalling a nationwide push to safeguard Thai residents' well-being.

But today the air was healthy..... So no problems today and for tomorrow and next months they don't care as the never didin the last months. Just because the RTP is not enforcing the laws.. As soon as this institution is going to function things will be better in Thailand, but I think first built a total new force as the current one is only pocketfilling

 Every year the polloution gets worse. Starting earlier in the year and lasting longer. 

Every year the buitiful city of Chaing Mai is reduced to a no go area for at least two months every year with fires visible in the same locations. 

Strange how the burning  is controlled until after the Flower Festval and Chineese New Year.

What resources?

The government, governors, local headman haven't a clue about what to do, or maybe they do but refuse to do it.

Local Action is and will be totally ineffective against a problem which is, fundamentally, NOT local.

 

The problem is not that of Thailand, but more a problem of surrounding countries, and also to some extent....Thailand.

 

Nobody seems to believe this.

 

However, it is true.

 

The air pollution problem experienced in Thailand during the burning season is REGIONAL, and not just local.

 

Is anyone willing to admit what should be easily apparent from satellite data?

 

 

The above forecast should tell the story and be clear to anyone.

The problem is REGIONAL and not local....

They're spraying water about in Pattaya.  They know how to handle this.

Read on folks. Nothing to see here. The pollution will subside even without the Gov doing anything and all will be forgotten until next year when it becomes worse than it already is now. Then more rubbish half-baked ideas about how to stop what has already happened will occur once again. Lip-service to those suffering given only to appease the complaints without making any real solutions how to stop the smog and prevent it from happening worse next year.

I was in shock on Saturday night. I was looking at my exterior CCTV cameras and it literally looked like there was a snowstorm blowing. The particles really were clear on the IR cameras. Our house is in the country, so I can imagine what it might have been in the city. There really needs to have something done ASAP...

    And, in this case, kick the can to the 'locals' to take 'action'.  Useless, ineffective government bankrupt of ideas and solutions.  When they come up with something, like free metro, it only makes the problem worse.  All that money they are spending to reimburse metro could have been put towards farm equipment or hiring personnel to actually monitor and enforce no burning.
