The Thai prison system is  corrupt as  most government institutions.  Look at the favourable treatment of Thaksin while incarcerated.

Thaksin, the original and unique creator of the expression "walking ATM".

Where's the story?  Is anybody even a little bit surprised that money can buy privileges in prison?

If I had to do time in a prison, the first thing I would do is to find the right people to pay-off for safety, better accommodations, and better food.  Who wouldn't?

The second thing I'd have done is get this symbol tattooed on my backside.

I believe this symbol could trigger the so called "law of reverse effect" and you could end up pretty demaged in your back end...

I find that hard to believe, especially after they gave Thaksin such a hard time.

Who gave thaksin a hard time? About what?

the department asserted that all prisons in Thailand, including Bangkok Remand Prison, operate in compliance with departmental rules and policies.

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

Can somebody post this, might be more interesting than the rest of the article 😊

He's not giving this up for free, either.

According to Ekkachai, the Chinese inmates were exempt from work and prison activities.

As are all foreign inmates at Klong Prem.   No foreigners are forced to work.

They allegedly managed to obtain fresh grilled salmon...

As can any inmate if they get parties outside the prison to have it delivered.  It is not corruption nor does it need to inappropriately involve prison staff who receive the food and let the recipient know that it is there for collection.

Ekkachai also claimed that Chinese inmates used their wealth to hire Thai inmates as personal servants.

Not unusual, not against any rules and does not need the cooperation of prison officers.  Thai inmates (and any foreigners) can also come to arrangements with other prisoners to work for them for a consideration and many Thai prisoners make it clear that they are available for menial tasks.
