Man Jailed for Killing Siberian Husky Over Chicken Incident

A man has been sentenced to two months in prison for fatally beating a three-year-old Siberian Husky named Lucky, belonging to a neighbour, before discarding the dog's body into the sea. The incident occurred after the dog allegedly attacked the man's chickens.

 

On 28 January, the Songkhla Provincial Court delivered its verdict in a case brought by the public prosecutor. The defendant, Mr Boonlert, was charged with animal cruelty under the Prevention of Cruelty and Animal Welfare Act 2014, as well as causing property damage under the Criminal Code.

 

The incident dates back to 6 December 2024, when Lucky, a female Husky, reportedly wandered into Mr Boonlert's property and killed several of his chickens. Enraged, he used a wooden stick to strike the dog repeatedly, killing it on the street, before throwing its body into the sea.

 

During the trial, Mr Boonlert pleaded guilty to all charges. The court found him guilty of causing property damage under Section 358 of the Criminal Code, which carried the harshest penalty among the charges.

 

The original sentence of four months' imprisonment was reduced by half to two months due to the defendant's confession, which was considered a mitigating factor under Section 78 of the Criminal Code.

 

The court reviewed a probation officer's report on Mr Boonlert and determined there were no grounds to suspend the sentence. As a result, the defendant was ordered to serve two months in prison.

 

It was reported that Mr Boonlert did not apply for bail or submit any assets to secure his release pending appeal.

One must suspect the guy did not have a fence around his property, or did not close his gate. Therefore the chickens walk freely on the mans property. The dog was running free, as is the common standard in this country. The dog had no knowledge of that it was the man property, and by animalistic instinct attacked the chickens. The owner of the dog should have kept it inside his property fenced and gated. The man with the chickens should have fenced and gated his property to protect his chickens. This is just the result of 2 stupid persons among many. What do people really think happens if they let everything run free?

Usual procedure in these cases is to tie the dead chicken around the dog for a few days while telling off the dog.

They usually learn their lesson.

If the dog doesn’t learn its lesson either re-house the dog away from chickens and young children or put it down humanely.

Here we go again! Dog wandering around the neighborhood and start killing chickens! That is the problem for the dog owner! Are the Thai people not allowed to protect their live-stock?? And goes to jail for protecting a part of their income?? That is the worst I have heard! It is time to demand dog owners to take care of their dogs and not letting them roam around free! A fine would be enough punishment! Not jail!

The dog was a Siberian Husky, but the article doesn't go into detail about what type of chickens the dog killed. Is the type of dog who killed the chickens more important than the type of chickens he killed? 

I approve of the man's punishment for killing the Siberian Husky, but if he hadn't done that, I would also approve of punishing the Siberian Husky for killing (what kind of?) chickens.

I approve of the man's punishment for killing the Siberian Husky, but if he hadn't done that, I would also approve of punishing the Siberian Husky for killing (what kind of?) chickens.

Of course not, and maybe the guy knew it, hence his attack on the dog.

Only two months for taking the life of a beautiful animal? Maybe the guy should put up some fences.

 

He should be in prison for years. If anyone ever did anything to our dogs they'd have me to deal with.

 

One thing I'll say, though, is that it is also the dog owner's fault for letting his dog run free. That shouldn't happen, but it happens a lot here in Thailand. 

 

We control our dogs and keep them from harm's way.

I doubt the dog would know that what he was doing was 'illegal'. Also, if there was fencing, was it adequate, or perhaps a gate was left open ? News reports appear to have ignored these issues.

Fair enough to punish the guy, but since he is having to face the consequences of his actions, the owner of the dog should be charged with allowing his dog to kill his neighbour's chickens.

Are you insane? The owner of the dog is responsible and should keep the dog under control at all times! A dog when out should always be on a leash and under control. Dogs should not be allowed to roam at will! This time it only killed chickens " someone's livestock" next time it could have been a child or an adult.  I love animals and especially dogs! I  have had, trained and worked gundog's, for many years and if one of my dogs had escaped and went onto a farm and a farmer shot the dog the only person I would blame would be me! this is another case of ridiculous Thai Think justice!!!

I remember watching the video some time ago, the dog never tried to fight back, not even run away, and the guy kept on viciously whacking the poor animal, brought tears to my eyes.
