The Rise of AI and the Death of Human Creativity?

The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence is changing industries across the globe, from journalism and law to art and music. While some hail AI as the ultimate tool for human progress, others argue that it is slowly killing creativity and making traditional jobs obsolete.

The Case for AI

Supporters of AI claim that it enhances human productivity, automates mundane tasks, and allows people to focus on innovation. AI-generated art, music, and literature are said to be pushing creative boundaries rather than destroying them. Algorithms can now compose symphonies, paint intricate digital artworks, and even write novels. With AI assisting creative minds, proponents argue that it is not replacing creativity but rather redefining it.

The Threat to Human Creativity

On the other side of the argument, many fear that AI is stripping creativity from its human roots. Writers, musicians, and artists are seeing their work being replicated—or even replaced—by machine-generated content. Some claim that AI lacks true human emotion, experience, and originality, producing nothing more than soulless imitations. If AI continues on this trajectory, will there still be room for genuine human expression in the future?

Ethical and Economic Concerns

Beyond creativity, AI poses significant ethical and economic dilemmas. Job displacement is a growing issue, with automation gradually rendering certain professions redundant. Should governments regulate AI development to protect human jobs? And what happens when AI-generated content becomes indistinguishable from human-created work? Should AI be credited as an artist or writer, or should the individuals programming the AI be recognised instead?

What Do You Think?

Is AI the ultimate tool for enhancing creativity, or is it a destructive force eroding human originality? Should we embrace AI-driven art and literature, or should regulations be put in place to preserve human craftsmanship?

At this point, we're just seeing the beginning of the AI revolution.  But they're making. progress faster than ever.  Anyway, people might as well get used to it.  Any business that doesn't utilize AI will run the risk of being left behind.  It will also transform health care, governments and the military.  Everything will be streamlined and more efficient.  Not only does that make sense, it's becoming a necessity.  Governments around the world are going broke trying to support business as usual.

As things progress, people will lose their jobs.  That much is obvious.  On the bright side, if AI adoption is deflationary, maybe all the displaced workers can be taken care of, one way or another.  Governments won't be wasting so much money on bloated bureaucracies, waste and fraud, and will be better able to handle the needs of all the displaced workers.

Isn't one of the laws of robotics that the more efficient a machine or logarithm is, the less control we have over it?

And @bunnydrops a very fair point as much as that Musk guy is winding everybody (at least me) up at the moment he is predicting we should be very wary of AI however as one of Donald Trumps future technology advisors it doesn't seem to correlate with the amount of money Trump has said he is going to invest in AI

If it gets out of hand then just pull the plug and starve it off electricity, problem solved.

I can't wait for the more efficient use of the military on two countries going head to head in a war.

It thought of that already. It's way ahead of you.

What if an AI could replicate itself to any machine in the world and know how to bypass any implemented firewall though and didn't even need power, would we switch off every computer and all power in the world?  Transcendence I think the movie was.

Is a matter of time. I mean just with a Mac Mini and DeepSeek's Open Source version from today available alone you essentially already have this GPT as known online today so far, for yourself, isolated.

you need a beast of a machine though.

Remember ENIAC. You have more power in your phone. What will the next 50 years bring?

We are. And we are talking about the potential of a new technology and the ramifications in the future.

Microsoft's 'Co-pilot' is exceptionally irritating as there seems to be no way to turn it off when using Word and Outlook.

If you're using Office LTSC 2021 or 2024, Copilot isn’t included, so that could be an alternative.

@steven100 ChatGPT reports (I don't even know what a koozie is!) and if ChatGPT can't keep beers cold I am refusing to converse with it anymore!

This reminds me of the time when the internet got popular.

People were sure that now we all didn't have to reply on centralized media anymore. We could just listen to all those people around the world.

Free exchange of knowledge. Poor countries will profit from the free knowledge of the rich countries.

Exchange of ideas.

And everybody will be well informed and make good decisions with all that knowledge and wisdom.

And then? Obviously, we can get knowledge and accurate news from the internet. But it seems most people use facebook, tiktok, X and other manipulative media and think they are well informed. And look who people vote for who are supposedly well informed.

I am sure AI will be very powerful. And I am also sure greedy people and manipulative people will use it any way they want. And who will (be able to) stop them? Nobody!

Interesting, so you think nothing will change at all then and what's been going on for many decades will just continue the same?

AI can already replicate itself apparently:

It has also learned how to lie and deceive:

That may not be the case.  I think I saw an article today somewhere about someone running DeepSeek on a Rasberry Pi (a small little computer).

Where did I say nothing will change?

A lot will change.

But the basic principle that "bad" people will use AI to manipulate people and get richer by exploiting not so rich and not so smart people, I am pretty sure that won't change.

The USA and the recent elections are a good example. Did people vote for Bernie Sanders or somebody like him to make life better for ordinary people? Why did people vote for rich well-connected people? Because other rich well-connected people donated huge amounts of money. And manipulation on social media, etc.

I don't see any reason why this concept should change. Will the poor control the most powerful AI? No!

Yeah @madone tried it on a pi, lack of GPU it struggles but can set up a basic standalone GPT.
I have set up proof of concepts especially around video recognition using Nvidia Jetsons before and built a robot with them before, the Jetsons are cool devices and brilliant to practice AI with a little more expensive than the Pi's but if you are into it probably negligable.  Doing a bit of stuff with ESP32's at the moment and Arduino programming, just bought a couple of LoRa's from China those are interesting devices I've got them talking to each other but not hooked up to any IoT stuff just yet.

@madone not very often people talk about the geeky stuff I like so just taken a photo of a partial section of my collection 🙂
Reckon you will probably guess them all?

I see IoT stuff the flipper Zero and a cardputer to be honest, I'm not a dev, but I have seen them and actually played with the Flipper
