many details of the proposed "deal" are publicly available, for example here:

https://www.understandingwar.org/backgrounder/fact-sheet-istanbul-protocol-draft-document-april-15-2022

and here

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/06/15/world/europe/ukraine-russia-ceasefire-deal.html

(this link possibly has a paywall, but I already accessed it freely)

you will see that the proposal was totally unacceptable.

So, did Zelensky’s trip to the US achieve anything other than to PO the POTUS?

It's nothing to the left but an attempt to humiliated Trump. They really care nothing about Ukraine, if they did, they would have spoken up when Obama threw Ukraine under the bus for a bit of space until after his second election.

Of course he won't.

Zelensky should take the deal as he is unlikely to get a better. Let's be clear, Zelensky is NOT the big dog here, he came to the US as a beggar, not as the guy in charge.

Was it a trap, as some surmise? If it was, Zelensky jumped into it boots and all, and should have known better. Seems like he doesn't know how to deal with Trump, who is the man with ALL the cards.

If Zelensky thinks he can get a "security guarantee" from Trump that commits the US to getting involved in the war, he is demented. Trump gets out of wars, he doesn't get into them.

While the Euros are rallying around Zelensky, it's all talk- even with the US support under Biden, Ukraine was losing the war in the east, and if the US stops supplying weapons and munitions, it's unlikely that the Euros can reverse the loss on their own.

The danger now is that they will supply missiles that can attack Moscow, and then it's really into uncharted territory, but it won't end well for Ukraine.

and this is the response. Considering the war is reaching it's end, seems a shame to get more Ukrainian civilians killed.

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2025/1/31/russia-ukraine-war-list-of-key-events-day-10

Nine people were reportedly killed and 13 others injured including a child when a Russian drone hit a multistorey apartment building in northeastern Ukraine’s Sumy city, the region’s Governor Volodymyr Artyukh said.

UKRAINE: Zelensky informs the EU that his refusal to work with the US to end the war will require them to pay $250 billion to keep the war going.

In that clip you posted, he is only referencing that the EU look at the seized Russian assets, a point Macron alluded to last week, without comment from you. You chose not to post Macron's comment. Curious that, and curous why you are misrepresenting an interview with a crudely selected clip. Where and when was the interview performed, so we can view interview. Don't say you don't know, because if that was the case, you might be posting AI nonsense, and I assume everyone here does the correct verifications to avoid that.

I have no more problem with Europe spending Russian assets any more than Ukraine paying protection money in the form of mineral rights. Its not like Russia will ever see any of that money ever again. The US routinely dips into seized Iranian assets to provide compensation as and when it sees fit. The UK and US governments still control assets of Nazi Germany.

Some successes for Ukraine.  General Mykhailo Drapatyi has an impressive CV

Quote

In June that year, the first and second battalions were sent on a raid along the Russian border alongside the 3rd Special Forces Regiment, 24th Mechanized Brigade, 51st Guards Mechanized Brigade and the 79th Air Assault Brigade. They were tasked with cutting off the separatists from Russia. They travelled over 160 kilometres, taking control of several settlements,[1][5] though were eventually encircled by both Russian and Donetsk People's Republic forces near Chervonopartyzansk, Luhansk Oblast,[7] coming under BM-21 Grad and BM-27 Uragan rocket fire between 4–7 August.[1][5][6]

To breakout, they had to pass through 40 kilometres of Russian territory without support and with unreliable communication. The first battalion surrendered, destroying their weapons and withdrawing across the nearby Russian border.[7] Drapatyi led the remaining units to Zelenopillia, Donetsk Oblast, and on 7 August he led a breakout with the 260 soldiers and 30 pieces of military equipment that remained, lasting three days.[6] The breakout was successful, allowing them to return to Ukrainian lines,[5][6] losing one soldier in the process.[6]

also you can clearly see FOREIGN volunteers in the video. because lately some russian orcs said there is no foreign volunteers in 3rd separate assault brigade.. i already posted the proof of it but its always a nice feeling to make them more shame about this..
