Indeed...   I recall being on a 'French Exchange Trip' back in school days.... at 14/15 years old I was paired with a French lad of similar interests and stayed at his for a couple of weeks, he then stayed at my house for a couple of weeks - great fun.

 

But....  I was warned by both the lad and his parents.... 'do not under any circumstances venture into xyz area of town, I will get stabbed'......    they referred to is as the 'Arab area'.....  

 

Meanwhile,  the town had a little India and a China town area, and these area's were safe....  no issues....  the same can be said of the UK....  except change out 'Arabs' for 'Pakistani's' and we have the same issues.... 

 

... Thats not to 'want' to be racist towards Pakistani's - I have many exceptional work colleagues from Pakistan, the better are those who mix well with everyone and don't keep themselves segregated.

 

The same could be argued of expats in Thailand...  there are those who will not mix with Thai's, remain separated, draw bigoted and negative generalised opinions about Thai's... meanwhile there are those who are perfectly affable and have many Thai (male) friends and have integrated with mutual respect to a far greater degree.

There are legal requirements that need to be met before all the expert laymen on here can enforce their 'deport and black list' them rulings... 

 

Apart from the legal technicality, they will be banned from future entry for certain period of time IF They Faced Deportation on the ground of criminal conviction.

Quite easy to find out Thai immigration's standard(re:Deportation and re-entry prohibition period).

Refer to the info shown below link.

Police arrested five Frenchmen for running a police checkpoint while riding their motorcycles on the Kamala-Patong Road in Phuket at 1.15am on Sunday, January 26.

 

A Thai motorist, Yuttaphon Naluck, shared dashcam footage of the incident on his Facebook account on January 27, showing the foreign motorcyclists ignoring the checkpoint and speeding away in front of Thai police. He captioned the video…

In the footage, other vehicles were seen slowing down as they approached the checkpoint but the foreigners ignored it. They were riding in the left lane when a police officer attempted to stop them for inspection. However, they ignored the officer’s signals and fled in different ways.

At the time, the police did not pursue them, allowing them to leave. None of the foreign riders or their passengers were wearing helmets.

 

The incident, which occurred at 1.15am on Sunday, was later confirmed to have involved officers from Kamala Police Station. The checkpoint was set up to apprehend motorists carrying weapons without valid justification or those in possession of illegal drugs.

 

The video sparked criticism of both the foreign motorcyclists and the Thai police. Many netizens alleged that the police granted too many privileges to foreigners, allowing them to ignore Thai laws and act with impunity.

Following the backlash, officers from Kamala Police Station launched an investigation to identify the foreign motorcyclists and vowed to bring them to justice to set an example for other foreigners.

 

Police eventually identified all the riders as French nationals and arrested them on Wednesday, January 29. Their identities were not disclosed to the public.

According to Phuket Hotnews, two of the foreign men were charged with violating Section 43(8) of the Land Transport Act, which prohibits driving without regard for the safety of others. The penalty includes imprisonment of up to three months, a fine ranging from 2,000 to 10,000 baht, or both.

 

In this case, the two men received a sentence of two months in jail and a fine of 6,000 baht. However, their imprisonment was suspended for one year.

The other three foreign men were charged under Section 368 of the Criminal Law for failing to comply with officials’ orders. The penalty carries a maximum imprisonment of 10 days, a fine of up to 5,000 baht, or both. These three Frenchmen were fined 1,500 baht each but did not receive prison sentences.

 

The motorcycles were found to belong to a rental shop in the province, with one valued at over 400,000 baht.

 

Officers seized the vehicles as evidence. There has been no report on whether the rental shop owner will be able to reclaim the motorcycles once the case is concluded.

Yep....  But it is my understanding that this involves both time and legal leg work....  resources which, if I'm correct in understanding the Thai legal system prefers not to draw upon unless the case is high profile... and thus, the standard response to any such incidents is usually a fine and an apology - everything else takes more efford.

 

In higher profile examples, they could be kicked-out (deported), but that also takes legal action and use of resources....   but I'm not sure sure 'blacklists' can be applied so readily as they require further legal action. 

 

Just look at the recent case of the 'Swiss man allegedly kicking the Thai lady in Hua Hin - attempts were made to revoke his visa, deport him etc... but there really were no legal grounds'... 

 

In this case - I'm not sure riding without a helmet and trying to pass a check point are legal grounds serious enough for the Thai Police to pursue legal action....  unless of course, someone high enough decides the BiB lost enough face and legal action 'should' be taken....

The other thing that has always bothered me is the people passing on the left on a single lane.

One time on Koh Lanta it happened to us just as we were pulling over. The bike didn't see our turn signal as she was past the bumper. The driver stopped just in time but the girl hit the front bumper and fell over. We dusted her off and took her over to a restaurant for a soda. Her boyfriend came and they demanded $4000 baht for the scrapes on her bike. My Swedish friend had a house amongst the Muslim community so he agreed to pay. He then came to me for $2000 baht because I was the reason he was on the road as he was taking me to the recycle depot.

I had a pub & restaurant at the time and gave my friends a break on prices. Once my "friend" started paying regular prices I didn't see him too much. Definitely not enough times for me to recoup my $2000. If I wouldn't of yelled at him to stop, as I saw the gal sneaking by, we would of probably run her and the bike over. Only Buddha knows what would have happened then.

Given the day and age we live in.  It would be a lot more accurate and informative if they started a standard reporting convention of saying, " An Arab holding a French Passport" or a Sub Saharan African holding an American passport. etc.
