Any tips dealing with health insurance agents
A long time ago in a country far away I was an insurance agent. One important rule for us was: Tell the truth - but maybe not the whole truth. If we would not tell the truth that could have bad consequences for our job and working with insurance companies. Not telling the whole truth had no consequences. You should ask questions, a lot of questions. And maybe you should ask the agent if you can record your meeting. Then the agent will think twice before he lies. You could ask i.e. if what the agent suggested is the only option. Are there other policies? Are there options that you pay the first x amount by yourself. Ask! And in most cases talk with several agents and compare. And, if you are not 100% healthy, then make sure to answer all the questions in the application form correctly. Don't let anything out! Maybe the agent will tell you that hospital visit 10 years ago was not really important, or that ear infection last year. But if you don't mention it, and they you have to go to the hospital the next year, then maybe the insurance will look for things which you didn't tell them. And depending on what they found they won't pay. Obviously, we all want to be insured and don't pay anything extra. But the most important part is not just that you are insured, but that the insurance actually pays if you need them. And for that they should not have a reason not to pay. Lots of agents are only interested in (high) commissions. Other are fair. It's difficult to tell them apart. I can recommend one agent in Bangkok who I know for 20 years. If you are interested, PM me. -

Thai tax tangle: Expats warned of new rules on overseas income
I thought, maybe mistakenly, that the original concern was foreigners might be caught up in the same net as the Thai national repatriating money? Doesn't seem very fair, and will be a definite negative on Thailand if foreigners are not given the same courtesy, especially retirees. -

Anyone on a ketogenic diet whilst living here in Thailand?
I'm experiencing memory issues / cognitive impairment for several years. Many doctors on youtube are recommending the ketogenic diet which comprises of cutting down on carbs and UPF ultral processed foods. No more bread, rice, potatoes. Sugar is not permitted. Eating fatty meat and seafood is recommended. Healthy fats eg avocados, nuts, oils. If I do this the liver produces ketones apparently. How will I know that I have succeeded. I used chatgbt for keto receipes and think that Im going to lose weight. If you have any suggestions or useful websites it would be appreciated. thanks -

Pattaya Prepares for Silent Night: Alcohol Ban Hits Tourists
You have quoted me as saying what I've made bold in your comment. Please post where I said this. If you can't I will accept your apology. Deliberately misquoting a member is against forum rules and for good reason. As for "real Thailand" this is a common expression amongst those who don't live in Pattaya, Phuket etc. As for 20 years it's actually 21 years now full time. Been with the missus around 17 years or so. As for being "a village alcoholic" this just shows your levels of civility. I will make this very plain to you only once. I do not get drunk everyday and indeed I do not drink everyday. Looking forward to your apology. -

"Nomad Capitalist" suggests Americans abroad may be headed towards pariah status
If you fear being a target, move out of the target area. Leave those foreign ghettoes where so many Americans seem to reside. Plenty of nice places exist but they're not next to where expat condos, bars, and feed stores proliferate.
