Nightmare at the Prachuap tax office
Only if assessable. You should not file if exempt under a DTA, otherwise you encounter the same problems as the OP. What's the point of a DTA if you're required to file for tax? I agree only if assessable income AND if above the Thai tax filing assessble income threshold for filing a Thai tax return. As to the point of there being DTAs? ... it is to avoid double taxation. Not to avoid tax completely. The DTA is to help determine cases where one county may have exclusive taxation rights (and the other country no taxation rights) and to help in the situation where both countries can tax an income (to avoid double tax). There can be cases where legally due to DTAs and Royal Decrees on taxation and due to the source of one's income that: (1) a person pays taxes in both countries (but not above the maximum that they would pay if only one country involved). (2) a person ONLY pays tax in one country on their income, and not in the other country (3) a person pays tax in neither country on their income It all depends on how the tax law is implemented, together with Royal Decrees on taxation (such as Royal Decree-18 and DTA contents), Royal Decree 743 (LTR visa) and Ministerial instructions por.161/162. If remitted income to Thailand is exempt in the tax calculation, there it is not to be included in the assessment as to the threshold for submitting a Thai tax return, nor (if threshold reached to file a return due to other income) is the DTA tax exempt income to be included in a Thai tax return. I am not a tax expert - but sadly, seeing some of the mistakes in some of the youtube blogger purported tax advisors, it appears at present, neither are they experts, as perhaps some time is needed to see how this all plays out. -

Despite claims from Donald Trump, Elon Musk and White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has uncovered massive fraud being committed against taxpayers, an analysis by the Washington Post called the assertions all sizzle and no steak. In an analysis by the WaPo's Aaron Blake, he made a distinction between accusations of criminal fraud –– of which there is little evidence –– and waste which has long been an obsession on both sides of the aisle. More importantly, he noted that Trump and his allies are conflating fraud with programs the president "simply doesn’t like or agree with." As he wrote, Musk made a big deal about discovering that a mine is being used to store government paperwork as a example of the yeoman work his DOGE people have been doing –– only for Blake to note "that mine was actually exposed 11 years ago by The Washington Post, in a story called, 'Sinkhole of bureaucracy.'" As he wrote, "This has been the story of Trump’s broader efforts to overhaul the government: big, hyperbolic claims without much to back them up. Even if you expand the money supposedly being rooted out to include fraud and alleged waste, The Washington Post’s Fact Checker, Glenn Kessler, notes that DOGE has publicly identified 'only about $2 billion in annual savings from specific line items' — a tiny drop in the bucket." "They seem to be having trouble locating the actual fraud. They keep saying they’ve uncovered fraud. But when pressed for evidence, they don’t seem to have much or any," Blake accused before ending with, "And that’s a problem when you’re using that as your justification for dismantling large portions of the government." -

The "19 Crimes" is available in BIG C, Lotus's and most outlets that sell wine and it is the only one which hasn't come down in price (maybe old stock?) and is around 599 baht. However if you haven't tried JJ McWilliams wines or the Riddle Creek wine at 399 a bottle, then give them a try. -
