Phuket's Trash Dilemma Grows as Incinerator Closes for Repairs
Photo courtesy of The Phuket News Phuket is grappling with a growing waste crisis as its sole public incinerator undergoes a month-long closure for urgent renovations. This has left the island struggling to manage its waste, with overflowing landfills taking in hundreds of tonnes of excess garbage. On February 17, Deputy Mayor Suphot La-ongphet met with engineers and PJT Technology Co Ltd at the Phuket Solid Waste Disposal Centre in Saphan Hin to devise emergency waste management strategies. The incinerator, usually handling 900 tonnes of waste daily, will operate at a reduced capacity of 300 tonnes from February 18 to March 19 during the shutdown. In the meantime, Phuket's landfills, already strained, are accepting the excess waste. Authorities are employing heavy machinery to manage the surplus, but this is expected to worsen the odour in nearby areas. Officials are urging residents to play their part by separating waste to minimize risk. Concerns have heightened after a fire broke out at the landfill on February 16, likely due to improperly discarded lighters or car batteries. With the hot season approaching, workers have been warned to remain vigilant for fire hazards. Maintenance of the incinerator, initially planned from December 20 to January 20, was delayed to support operations during Phuket's peak tourism season. In response, Thaipaiboon Equipment (TPB) has introduced waste separation machines under a 40-million-baht project to ease pressure on the landfill. Joining efforts, Wichit Mayor Kreeta Chotiwichanphiphat is advocating for greater public awareness around the importance of waste separation. With Phuket generating significant waste each day, officials emphasize the need for effective waste disposal to protect both the environment and public health, reported The Thaiger. -- 2025-02-19 -

Trump says Zelensky ‘should have never started’ war with Russia
If you bothered to look at the vid you'll see that what he said can be taken another way i.e. should have negotiated a way out rather than going in. Can't blame Zelenskyy though as Russia did invade and the war mongering Biden administration supported, some would say encouraged Zelenskyy to respond militarily. -

Trump got caught
just in case you didn't notice, let me refresh your memory, I only have discussions with intelligent people, the ones that have enough brains to have a realistic conversation and accept others opinions, I don't waste time and/or energy with one track minded uneducated people and you do perfectly fit my last sentence -
