Students Return 32,000 Baht Mistakenly Given at a Thai Gold Shop

Recently, two high school students in Saraburi, Thailand, made headlines for their remarkable honesty. The teenagers, Thiraporn "Baifern" Laophusing and Phornchanok "Beam" Phimsen, were given nearly 32,000 baht (about $890) instead of 5,000 baht (about $150) at a local gold shop. Both 18-year-olds returned the excess money, receiving praise and a small reward for their integrity.

 

The mix-up happened at Phetchthong Yaowarat, a busy gold shop managed by Piraya Thanakitamporn. The shop mistakenly handed the students three bundles of 10,000 baht each and some 50 baht notes instead of the correct amount. The error occurred during a hectic part of the day.

 

Upon realizing the mistake at home, the students promptly informed their teacher and Beam's mother took them to the shop to return the extra cash. The gesture was met with admiration from the shop owner, who rewarded the students with 1,000 baht as a thank-you for their honesty.

 

 

Thiraporn explained they were exchanging money they’d collected for a class fund, intended for easy distribution to classmates before their graduation. Overwhelmed by the confusion, they immediately rectified the mistake upon noticing it.

 

Their commendable actions have inspired many, emphasizing the importance of integrity and honesty in everyday life, reported The Thaiger.

So how do they leave the gold shop with a wad of cash without knowing it was given by mistake. Something tells me this is fictional and that the kids bragged at school about all the money and the teacher made them return it with this made up excuse. I just can not imagine anyone not knowing you were given 3 wads of cash with some 50 baht notes without noticing the amount greatly exceeds what you were supposed to get back..

Students are taught not to question. They probably noticed but stayed quiet until they arrived home, then seeing the actual amount they told their mother.

If they said something in the shop it's possible they would have brought shame on the staff member.

Cut the girls some slack.

I agree,   somethings isn't right ... is it bs ... possibly.

The sad thing is that this  story is considered to be a display of honesty and integrity. In any most societys children would be raised learning right from wrong and not think twice about correcting the error because they would know that returning the money was the right thing too  do.

They were exchanging Cash for cash to get notes to distribute to class mates for the graduation, My guess is the mistake was to give them  30x 1,000 Baht notes instead of 30x 100 Baht notes in an envelope, and they didn't open the envelope until after they got home. Then if it was 40x50 Baht Notes the mathematics seams correct. Probably they wanted to hand out one envelope containing 100 Baht each to every student. I do not believe this is fictional.

 

Good job girls, more stories like this should reach the media attention.
