House #1 ... cost 800k, sold 1.4M ... no rent for 7 yrs

... made 600k + saved ~1.2M on rent

 

House #2 ... cost 720k (land), 2M (house) = 2.72M ... no rent for 7 yrs

...  sold for 5.5M, made 2.7iM + saved 1.7M rent

 

House #3 + Solar system + BEV ... paid for from house # 2's profit

... plus living rent free for 2.5 yrs so far, and on going until I crap out.

 

Made cash from #1 ... 600k

Saved 1.2M on rent

#2 saved 1.7M on rent + paid for #3 + solar + BEV

#3 saved 600k so far on rent

... #3 on going rent savings till death, ~20k a month and counting

... #2, paid for solar system = no PEA bills till death, saves ~5k a month and counting

... #2 paid for last car we'll own, along with no petrol to run it, ~5k a month saved from petrol and counting

 

So far, ~3M saved on rent from building homes that I don't own.

Also eliminated 2 major monthly bills, forever, along with a free BEV.

I'm pretty sick and tired of people whining on about it's not yours, as if it had never occurred to me that it wasn't! I know it's not mine, it's money I spent fully understanding I could lose it and was comfortable with that.

 

I bought the wife a 4 storey shophouse unit 20 years ago for Bht2.3 million, 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 350m², so that's Bht9,583 per month and falling.

 

You might correctly point out I needed to refurbish and furnish, and yes that was an additional 700k, so total 3m, so that's Bht12,500 per month and falling, I'm happy with that.

I found Thailand through working in Malaysia. Then with work in Indonesia Thailand proved to be a far more convenient base to live than Europe. I still do contract work regionally, Malaysia and Laos, plus occasionally Africa. It helped that I met a pretty lady 30 years ago who I eventually married and bought a house for. But the cost of living is not an issue and not something I consider or worry about.

 

I didn't reject the West, rather I found living in the East more advantageous.

Every time I see op post about the cost, I agree with him contrary to most Thailand bootlickers here.

 

I have tasted the west and it is indeed cheaper. The most important thing is to own the property, or like the op find a subsidized housing and your quality of life will be much better. The usual whiners and complainers who claim the west is more expensive usually shut up after their first GoFundMe doesn't go as planned.

 

Consider this: Even on platforms like AseanNow, Sheryl is readily available to address a wide range of inquiries, simply because poors here can't afford to visit a doctor.

How is the west cheaper? I found a 1 bedroom cabin for 380 baht a night which is $18 in OP currency. Imported steak for 290 baht. 6500 baht a month for a 1 bedroom cabin with pool which is $300 in OP money. He is paying $1000.

It seems impossible to have a decent discussion with the "Thai Bootlickers".
YES, Thailand can be cheaper if you consider only food and housing.
But if you need healthcare and other expensive items, sooner or later you will be confronted with them, Sherryl is not the cheap solution to your needs.
Neither is "GoFund.Me".

Dentists are much cheaper. Healthcare back home is paid for by the government its not cheaper at all. The rich pay for it.

You are wrong I pay 960 AUD per month but collect 2600 AUD on my pension. I live in the capital city of Western Australia which has a population of over 2 million, and don't forget I am quoting in Australian Dollars which is much less than the Greenback.

Not really my scene. Central bangkok, cocktails run at +450b, bottled beers 250 ish.
