My son currently stays with his nanny from around 9am-2.30pm & 6pm-8.30pm, his previous nanny turned out to be a monster, she even took our son swimming in the khlong - I wanted to rip her head off for this but thought better of it - the first nanny also wouldn't listen to our wishes so we dumped her, we then gave the responsibility to another lady in our village who is doing a great job, she's efficient, responsible, she talks nice and helps teach our son to talk nicely, the only thing is that he is surrounded by the other people in the neighbourhood who consider 'arai wah' 'tum arai wah' 'yu nai wah' 'gor' 'mung' to be normal ways of speaking - I don't.

We pay our nanny B200 per day and if we go out for the evening she gets another B100, in total, each month the nanny receives around B6500 which I think is quite good considering the local factory workers get around B4500 for 12 hours work watching plastic fall out of machines...

I have a dilemma though, I would like my son to mix with other children, more falang children for a start, but I live right over the wrong side of Bangkok - Bangkok Noi/Charan Sanitwong and I'm unaware of any western style creche over this side of town, I've asked around before but with no success.

I can't think of what to do now, I can't relocate to the other side of town because we get a great deal on our home out here and would have to spend at least double to get what we want anywhere else, so would it be possible to spend around the same amount of money on a creche as we do on the nanny?

Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated

Probably no responses 'cos nobody's got the answer you want to hear.

Being a parent involves many sacrifices as I'm sure you're aware. Often these will be financial. I hope you can find a suitable solution for your family.

I can't imagine that you will be able to get creche style care for the same rate you pay your nanny, especially if you want a western style care centre. I imagine that you will need to pay a significant amount of money to get this. I personally am a fan of creche and pre-school type care and would 100% rather have this for my son than a nanny but I am in a situation where this is possible. If you can not afford to pay for fees, can you afford to pay more money for a better nanny? Perhaps a Filippino that speaks English? You could also get the nanny to take your child to places like Gymboree or Little Gym so the are socialising with other children.

I may be able to afford a Filipino nanny but we don't have the spare room - that's currently my office - and our home isn't big enough for another person to live in...

I'm not bothered so much about the price, just somewhere local to my area would be fine, I know I'm in the wrong part of BKK to get what I want, unless someone knows of somewhere near Pin Klao(which I doubt) :o

I suppose I'll just have to continue with my current situation

An alternative to a creche would be the BAMBI organized and non-sponsored young child play groups. These are foreigner and Thai children where English is the primary spoken language. Classes are all over Bangkok, http://www.bambiweb.org/playgroups.php this weblink takes you to the list of all the playgroups. You should join BAMBI because it's less expensive that way and you can do that directly at the playgroup. It is fine to send your child with the nanny to these groups. Possibly from these interactions you may be able to create playdates for your child with these children.

This is the route I have taken and my son has a full play week with many different friends.
