Gunfire erupted when a group of attackers ambushed police officers in Pattani’s Yarang district late last night, killing two officers on the spot. This tragic incident occurred on February 19, around 11:25 PM, raising alarm throughout the community and sparking an urgent manhunt for those responsible.

The assault unfolded in a narrow alley behind a vehicle inspection station in Mueang Yarang subdistrict. Lance Corporal Decho Khiewkaew and Private Songchai Chantarapap were on a routine patrol when they were attacked by unidentified assailants. The attackers fired between five to ten shots, leading to the officers' immediate deaths.

Startled residents alerted the authorities upon hearing the gunshots, triggering a swift response by police and security forces. The area was secured, and checkpoints were established to prevent further incidents.

Efforts are underway to track down the culprits, believed to be local insurgents. This tragic event underscores the ongoing dangers faced by state officials, particularly police officers, in the southern border provinces.

Police continue their investigation, with more updates to follow as new information emerges, reported The Thaiger.

As always in this terrorist infested area, no one saw anything or knows anything.

Everyone here dislikes local law enforcement and what they stand for.

Condolences to their relatives, but when you're in the line of fire as a hard target, do not be surprised when these attacks affect you one day.
