They may be well versed, but that doesn't mean they actually practice it. I think worldwide the art of parenting is a vastly eroding art, and very few parents seem to know it anymore, much less grandparents.

 

It takes a lot of effort. A lot of older farts just don't seem to have that kind of energy.

See my response below. It is utterly shameful for a parent to leave their child with the grandparents for extended periods of time, and it's a sign of some sort of breakdown of contemporary society when this happens.

I totally agree with that.  Being a grandparent myself, must say I would not want to take full responsibility for my grandkids.  Too much energy required, as much as I love them I am happy for their parents to do the job. It’s the way nature intended, I believe.

I tried it for cbt pain relief when i went back to the Uk. It worked but my self rules ie not vaping infront of my children ment i wasnt using it enough and it clogged up all the time. When used properly it is better than smoking the little white cancer sticks. However, people vape the same as one hundred fags a day or more and the "see who can vap the biggest cloud" is killing people. Bubble gum flavour etc should be banned and the only flavour you should get is cigarette flavour or ash tray flavour.

Parental guidance humbug.

 

Noone in my household smoked and my parents, my mother most, did their best to make sure we knew how bad it was and what it did.

 

I started smoking at 11. The tobacco (and now vape) companies aim for kids. Normal adults wouldn't consider such a stupid thing. Hardly anyone starts after 18.

 

Fortunately I was able to let go of the fags at 41, but not before I'd contracted some fortunately minimal emphysema. I still get congested in winter but happily don't have COPD. I'm also healthy and fit but the damage is done even if minimal. So far it hasn't cramped my lifestyle.

 

But I do find it strange that these things are happening with vapes. I used to smoke the hard stuff. Self-rolled, Camel untipped, Gaulloise, Players Navy Cut, that kind of thing, for 20 odd years, and I seem to have been pretty lucky. Vapey steam strikes me as pretty mild by comparison.

 

I'd never have vaped anyway. Raspberry clouds and no punch to the throat, the lighting up, the sharing and offering of ciggies. Sucking on colored machines. Weird.

 

But all in all a foul, stinking and deadly addiction.

 

I won't date smokers because the stench that their ravaged lungs emit is beyond nauseating. Can't understand how my girlfriends could put up with the way I must have stunk.

My guess is that a lot of grandparents don't really want to take on this responsibility, but Thai society somehow does not give them the ability to say NO! This is your child you deal with them! Instead they end up engaging in a form of martyrdom in their golden years. 

 

Especially in Issan, where the absentee mother issue is rampant.

There is a general consensus from non-biased research that vaping is less harmful for your lungs since you are not inhaling a burning product, AND if you purchase decent vape liquids the amount of carcinogens are a fraction of what is used in cigarettes.

There is no equivalent carcinogen in vapes that are found in cigs

That is a completely ridiculous statement. That is like saying natural gas is just as bad or worse than leaded gasoline. You are entitled to your own opinions but not your own facts. 

 

Making vapes illegal or prohibitively expensive is the exact thing that will drive all vape production underground and that is what will make it more and more dangerous as it is unregulated with zero quality control. And if you had your way, that is what would happen. And it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. And the harder you clamp down on it, the worst the quality control gets. This is what happened with the opiate crisis in the US

Something a bit odd about this story. That's must have been an awful lot of vaping, almost constant, and vapes aren't free. Where's a 10-12 year old girl getting the thousands of baht to keep vaping so heavily for two years. This is obviously an isolated incident. Was lung disease already present?

Much of what happens is genetics.

 

Vapes, next to cannabis smoke, present the biggest dangers to lungs. If you must smoke tobacco try American Spirit.

 

But overall ... Don't even start.

Please supply this fact. I smoked for decades. Developed PAD from smoking and other diet related things. Symptoms came on pretty quick and it wasn't long before I could only walk about 50 metres before the severe, and I mean severe, calf pain started. At it's worst it felt like I was walking not with a strained or pulled calf muscle but a severely torn calf muscle. Excruciating. This is intermittent claudication. Gave up smoking and within a couple of weeks the intermittent claudication had reduced to near zero. I'm now vaping and although the pain is sometimes still there it's easily >90% better than it was. If I wasn't vaping it would go completely but my nicotine addiction is strong and nicotine has inflammatory properties. Vaping helped me quit smoking and my health has improved.
