he costs are similar and hiring prostitutes is also frowned upon in Thailand by much of society , you may forget that if you live among them

Perhaps you would care to explain the part of Thai culture surrounding a Thai guy having a Mia Noi then.

I was in Pattaya in Jan, first time for about 15 years. I walked the whole length of Soi 6 and didn't see one place I wanted to go into for a beer, for the same reasons you outlined. Such a pity!

I live in Pattaya.  Last time I went to Soi 6 was 3 months ago.  What's that say about the place?

So you are saying that every bar is tacky and a front for prostitution. I hadn't noticed.

not higher cost for a woman short time in the US... Actually the bar girls here cost a heck of a lot more now here. Not to mention to 1-2000 bar fine... the drinks.. the room if getting short time at the bar.. then the girl cost of 1000+....

You can find a street walker in the US for 30 or more. Less than 1000 THB...

So get a telephone, exchange numbers then you can knock off the bar fine, don't buy drinks and take them home

It's not difficult.

Or just go for freelancers in the first place.

Pattaya's tourism dynamics have shifted significantly, transforming the city that was once bustling with Western tourists into a hub primarily frequented by Asian visitors. This change has led to bars that were once thriving during the traditional high season now finding themselves empty.  *********                                                                                But I'll take a bet the.                "Shrimp Buffet's are jam packed!

freelancers are asking 1500+ for an hour... more if the girl is cute or sexy. My friend said some he chatted were asking 5k and all of them short time only. The BF experience is over..

The days of older divorced western men going to Pattaya for prostitution in the western winter seem to be coming to an end .

That could be the reason why the bars are empty ?

Prostitution  is widely avsi;able on their home Countries and they can also book girls online in Thailand .

Girls also don't need to to to bars these days either

So who were those guys packing the bars during high season?

Well we all speak from experience but that's not mine. If it was I'd not be here. Leave it at that....I believe we're not meant to discuss specifics on AN.

20 years ago it was 50 baht a beer and 20 baht on top for a girly drink. 200 baht bar fine and the girl stayed all night for 1k, cleaned your room in the morning and took your washing to the laundry..great sex at least 3 times also. Now it's 200 baht a girly drink, 500 baht minimum bar fine and girls IF they stay all night want 3k upwards, and that will be sex once..early morning they are gone..then people wonder why bars are empty...sex and.proatitites are cheaper in Europe...

Ah!! the 90's  the good old days .I had a similar experience in Phuket.Got the girl who stayed all night no hurry to go home next morning and as I was flying out that day  she offered to pick up my laundry for me. When she got back she completely re-packed my bag and folded all my clothes so I   gave her an extra tip but it was cheap in those days. The girls then had a different attitude then than  the ones today and they wanted to give the customer a good time. When I got home my wife opened my bag and asked me how come it was neatly packed and who folded all my clothes because I usually throw everything in and slam the case shut..I had to think quick and told her that the  housemaid wanted to do it so I let her  because she needed the extra   tip  money. I don't think she believed me but tha all changed when she saw the sapphire ring and bracelet that I had bought her...and now we are still married and she still has the sapphires.

It really has to do with the strength of the Thai baht...

Today's High THB, mostly caused by the influx of speculative fund from outside.

Due to this nation's sound economy:

1-Current Account Balance):Unlike most 1st world nations, it is strongly in Black.

2-GDP:DEBT ratio: Around 60%; still under control.

3-Huge Foreign Exchange Reserve(USD 242 Billion).

You can easily check out these info with goodle...

thai currenc account balance - Google Search

thai gdp-debt ratio - Google Search

thailand foreign exchange reserve amount - Google Search

Ironically, more tourists come in here, Higher THB will be.

Millions foreign visitors change their money into this nation's currency:THB, during their stay.

Just the same effect as Mass THB Buying by those from outside...

The lack of foot traffic around Jomtien is staggering....it was very much more busy last October

Exchange rates flight fares cost of girls attitudes are all taking their toll

Will add this as well

Close to the start of Bongkok 8 in Pattaya there is a bar thats perched on the junction across the road called "Henrys"

Quite simply a beer bar (half decent) and good spot for people watching

I bought 4 Lady Drinks without checking price (my fault)

800 Baht !!

My 2 cents...

in jomtien, in ten years, many things have changed. many small bars have closed, massage shops have closed, now there are many cannabis shops, night markets where you can eat, family-sized chicken coops (4 people in 35 square meters, but the russians are fine with that), many fruit sellers. at 11pm there are few people. from my point of view, tourists have increased tenfold, but the budget has shrunk (beer at 7/11, mango and ganja for the younger ones). the future of pattaya is now in the hands of the russians, if they disappear too, I don't see any other valid alternatives...

at much higher costs.

also, it's not socially accepted in western countries and if you are single/divorced, you have low status in society and people think you're a loser.

Similarly in Thailand.

A Mia Noi is not regarded as a common street prostitute. There is exclusivity.

Why would anyone believe what the OP "news" outlet writes. It has a trolling agenda as far as the straight nightlife scene is concerned.

During COVID it reported that it had it on good authority that Walking Street nightlife businesses weren't going to have their licences renewed because the powers that be wanted it cleaned up. So what has happened ? - absolutely no change.

Posted

Ask yourself why was it that City Hall, the hospitality industry and the local branch of the  tourism association in Pattaya were crying out to the government to extend nightlife opening hours after COVID reopening if the City had actually transformed itself away from nightlife dependency.

Utter fiction as usual from the Pattaya Mail.

I did wonder whether if the number of Russians in Jomtien/Pattaya decreased for whatever reason, people who previously visited would return? I very much doubt it though, perhaps other than previous frequent visitors who were put off by the Russian influx or expats who were put off for the same reason.

Your typical holidaymaker either doesn't care who else is there or haven't done their research to consider the impact this may have on their holiday.

Screwing the place up . No doubt a massive unnecessary parking garage is coming. Could care less whether the foreigners are Scandinavians or Russians. Jomtien used to be a quaint seaside relaxing resort getaway. Now may as well stay in Dodge. Also these increasing happy sh*t   events along the beach that attract Thais does not help either.

it seems that families with children have decreased and that the elderly and young people have increased, many of whom are opening businesses (real estate, rent motorcycles, ganja shops) all aimed at a russian clientele who cannot speak other languages. the russians will continue to come here as long as there are other russians to manage their holidays. if ganja becomes illegal again, things will change a lot.
