I hope they get to spend lots of time in a Thailand Jail, and have to pay a big fine as well, then deported for at least 10 years

ban from returning to Thailand. Who needs this kind of low life scum anywhere in the world?

So there would have been a lighter sentence if  a bicycle had been utilised in the commission of the crime?

A Jogger would have gotten an even lighter sentence.

A person in a wheelchair just a 100 Baht fine.

Good to know.

Hey, I've got a great idea, how about renting a motor cycle and robbing a few tourists, won't bother using a false name coz I ain't giving bike back, what do you think baby?

Brilliant idea darling we can make good money, I love you!

Let's see how it plays out in court I think she will be throwing her boy toy under the tuk tuk.

5 years for snatching a couple of iphones seems rather harsh.

and what does the motorcycle have to do with anything?

Harsh?

They are low class scum who've proven they don't deserve to be part of decent, polite society.

If I had my way, they and people like them would just be executed.

I don't believe in re-education.  They knew what they were doing was wrong, they are just morons who thought they'd get away with it, or that the punishment won't be that bad.

Prisons are a waste of money.

In the UK the reoffending rate is/was around 25% and in a recent report they said a failure by the justice system to rehabilitate criminals has led to a £23.6 billion-a-year bill to the economy.

Why do we bother putting people into prisons?  A lot of these probably didn't offer much of value to society anyway, even before they were banged up.

I'd rather live in a world where we don't have to lock anything, don't need passwords, can leave our possession anywhere knowing that the social contract will guarantee no-one will touch them, where the cost of crime is so close to zero that prices of things doesn't need to factor in losses from theft etc; and if the price of that near perfect world is the execution of millions of people before reality sinks in and people stop committing crime, then so be it.

Removed an off topic personal argument that was derailing the entire thread. Final warning to the two involved to stop. :post-4641-1156694606:

Typical begpackers - Aussies no less.

That said I'd throw it into the cougar for a few rounds.

Fine, deport and lifetime ban.

Thailand not fed up with the riff raff yet?

Please don't send them back to Australia, just lock em up.

No its not. Maybe read it properly, bags were snatched containing documents, money and phones. Happened to me once, I went home early as I had no passport and phone, totally ruined my holiday. Having a certain amount of drugs in some countries carries the death sentence, what do you think about that?

Drugs are ruining people's lives, including childrens lives.

Selling drugs to kids is just as bad as pedophilia.

Much worse crimes than bag-snatching. Although in Cambodia bag snatching on motorbikes can lead to serious injury. So maybe the motorbike had a lot to do with it. I don't know man. I dont work in the legal system.

I've touched a lot of nerves with this comment.

A bicycle rider should get double the penalty.

Yes, agree Nemises, no one has spotted/commented this till you.

Doesnt look like a dinki dai Aussie, nor behaving like what we would expect.

SHERWOOD then said:-  "Please don't send them back to Australia, just lock em up."

AGREE... except then send them back to where he/they really came from.  Not Oz.

No shortage of those in Aus.

Sure there is no shortage of dark skins in Oz but they are not usually inclined to travel.  Again,  I reckon they are farang to Oz and could be wrong and suspect drugs may have been a motivation.

Welcome to a world were there are no bleeding hearts for migrants, immigrants or tourist.  If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.  To stupid to research the penalties I guess.

Damn, I thought the some of  locals were stupid.

Committing a crime, on a rental motorbike, presumably with the plates on it, and wearing recognizable clothing. Classic.
