Zelenskyy heads to US for Trump meeting with minerals deal expected to be signed

It's like a Mob Protection Racket without the protection. 😄

A protection racket is essentially "pay us, or bad things happen"—a mix of extortion, coercion, and intimidation disguised as a "service".

A mob protection racket is a scheme in which a criminal organization offers "protection" to businesses or individuals, typically in exchange for regular payments.

However, this protection is often from threats that the mob itself creates.

Wow! I may have been wrong. Today, in the Oval Office, in front of the whole world, Zelensky just ended his presidency, ended Ukraine, and may have signed his own death warrant. No deal was agreed to. Instead, we witnessed a shouting match. Even the Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States couldn't believe what she was witnessing.

So, unless this was some sort of grandiose political stunt, Zelensky is history.

What comes next? WWIII? One thing for sure: the US is out, I think. Can Europe pony up the money to fully fund its commitment to NATO? Can Europe arrange for a repayment to the United States of the money previously plundered?

Perhaps the next deal Trump makes is with Russia. Stay tuned.

A lot of people couldn't believe the way Trump and Vance behaved. Zelensky calmly explained the number of times Putin broke agreements and Vance goes ballistic behaving like the goon he is.

A shame to see the American government behaving like football hooligans.

Then there was the annexation of The Crimea in 2014, followed by the Minsk agreement and forward to the situation today. I don't believe for one moment that Putin started the present conflict because he didn't want NATO on his borders - he has that already and if he took Ukraine he would have a much larger one. He just doesn't want to lose control of Ukraine via his puppets. Putin is also a 'Stalinist' and admires what Stalin achieved in terms of borders and population control.

Good summary of the debacle. Whatever the rights and wrongs of the fiasco, no one shouts at the POTUS on his own turf in public and gets a good deal after. I can't see Trump backing down and making up with the ( shortly to be ex ) president of Ukraine. Kiss kiss love love, NOT.

IMO the only hope Ukraine has now is a new president.

The pathetic "leaders" of the EU twittering on about how they are going to support the Ukraine- they can't even fund their own military.

Trump and Vance behaved like Trump and Vance. Trump quite succinctly told Zelenskyy he had no cards to play. He was there to make a deal, and Zelensky was overlaying his hand, thinking the US was his Trump card, so to speak. Trump reminded him calmly that that simply wasn't the case. Calling the Vice President a "bitch" under his voice was all everyone needed to hear.

Yeah, if you can't even make a deal with the United States, then there is no chance that you will ever make a peace deal with Russia. To use a poker analogy, Zelensky raised the stakes and Trump called his bluff. Now like the guy in Vegas who has maxed out his credit cards, mortgaged his house, and wagered his kid's university tuition by dropping the entire sum on three Aces to Trumps full-house, about the only thing left is to take a long walk off a pier and allow someone with the ability to deal for Ukraine's future to fill his shoes.

Zee is done. I'm afraid he just committed suicide although, as in the movie The Sixth Sense, he doesn't realize he's already dead.

Zelensky told Laurel and Hardy no deal was possible without serious military backup due to Putin's utter duplicity. A fact every sane person knows.

So Vance lost his rag behaving like a school bully whilst Donald remarked it was good television because that's as far as his attention goes, ' look at me!'.

To the disgust of the rest of the Western world, Trump has aligned with Putin, the dictator and mass murderer.

So be it, Europe, Canada, Australia, Japan will go our own way

He should of shown some humility, respect, and signed the mineral deal with a smile.

He's coddled and pampered by the Europeans and UK elites who viscerally hate Russia and Russians, who want to see Russia's demise, and who want war until the last Ukrainian fighting man as well as their own troops are dead. So now the Trump administration called him out. He wants to continue the war. Ok. So he and Europe and the UK can throw money and men into Ukraine's Eastern Front meat-grinder until there is nothing left. Scream "Article 5" until they are blue in the face. The US is done with this.

Zelensky should take the hint, retire, and move to his favorite European abode. However, I doubt he will and I doubt he'll be still sucking air when the first flowers bloom in Ukraine.

Ukraine is an existential crisis. Putin's theory as put forward in his "On the Historical Unity of Russians and Ukrainians" is that the state of Ukraine is illegal and is part of Russia. There is no peace with Putin as long as Ukraine exists.

Trump either knows this and doesn't care because he has his own interests, or is compromised or avoids difficult, hard decisions or he is too stupid to realise.

The Ukrainians are not going to stop defending their land, their houses, their children and their freedom.

Trump continues to spin the situation, throw in ridiculous deflections, parrot Russian narratives and defend Putin's warmongering.

The remarkable thing is how many of his supporters buy it without even asking the simplest of questions. e.g. How will a peace deal be brokered without the involvement of Ukraine? How will any peace be sustainable? What verifications will be in place to prevent Russia using a pause in the fighting to rearm? How can Putin be trusted having shown himself to be completely untrustworthy on many previous occasions?

Bottom line.

US and Russia carved up Ukraine, planned to split the spoils without offering Ukraine anything. That was 'the deal'.

And they presented that in a very open way, attempting to publicly humiliate the Ukrainian president. In the end it will be bad for the US.
