The definitive answer is probably not illegal BUT ! There are a number of ultra-conservative Buddhist foundation in Thailand called KnowingBuddha.org and felt that Buddha images were being used too much for decoration, proposed ban set off a firestorm among Thai tattoo artists and the Culture Department has dropped the issue for now. But some people were not happy. so its a 50/50 thing !! so what immigration/customs says at the airport if you are leaving anybodys guess in Thailand!!

Do you even know what the term woke means? It means that one is aware of and attentive to societal inequities. In the good old days, it was called being respectful and socially responsible. The golden rule is a cornerstone of being woke . The people protesting are not much different than those who deride social responsibility. Like you, they wish to dictate their views to others. 1 1 1

I understand your concern to protect the value of the Buddhism and its Thai culture & I respect that. At the same time, I am in little delimma whether the lady with tattoo purposely intends to cause the offence to Thai society and she asks good simple question: is this wrong? So my answer is this is not wrong unless the law says. 🙏 1

StayinThailand2much Posted February 26 Posted February 26 Good to know that, in addition to the Water Festival, Somtam, mango/sticky rice, etc., etc., Thailand now also has a monopoly when it comes to Buddhism and depictions of Lord Buddha.

Christmas was a pagan festival long before christianity was dreamed up The origins of Father Christmas can be traced back to the legend of Saint Nicholas, a 4th century Greek bishop. Saint Nicholas was known for his kindness and generosity, and became the patron saint of children. Saint is - to my limited knowledge - a religious description. Your call!

shocky2012 Posted February 28 Posted February 28 I love her response. You can tell shes down to earth and explain her side of the story. Report her for what? wtf?!? Some people are truly mentally challenged. As far as I know, its not a crime to have a tattoo of Buddha. And she obviously love the culture since she learned how to speak, has a Thai husband, etc.. People like to stir drama out of absolutely f*cking nothing I swear. Anything to gossip, gossip, gossip.

shocky2012 Posted February 28 Posted February 28 I love this community, and there are a lot of great people here, but why are some of y’all so angry? Is it old age creeping in? Do you feel the box coming or what? Y’all are talking about her like she’s a damn criminal just for having a Buddha tattoo. Like, WTF is wrong with you? And honestly, she handled it perfectly in her response. Some of you are just so bitter for no reason—always finding something to complain or bitch about. Is this what happens with age? Do we all just get bitter as we get older? I’m 37, and some of y’all are scaring me. Damn, I do not want to end up like that. What a miserable, ugly way to go through life.
