I'm not defending the guy....  BUT... what indecent 'act is he alleged to have committed' ???

The reason I ask... I know a Thai guy who is banned from using Gran for 3 months for "committing an indecent act of a female Grab Rider"...   He appealed, but Grab have simply ignored his appeal.

His crime....  He placed his hand on her shoulder while getting on (and off the bike).... this is something I always do for stability on the rare occasions I have taken a Grab Bike....

And 'this' is the second time this week I've heard of such a complaint...

Thus: IS this a way Grab riders (female) can claim some form of compensation ?

I know my friend well enough to know this claim by the female grab rider is 100% rubbish...

What about this ???

Of course - the riders must be protected and taken care of.....  but I am left a little cynical after hearing what happened to a Thai friend - that said, there are some loons around, so it could be easy to see how some may assume 'they' are 'that sort of women'....

I've often found myself in a Grab car with a rather attractive looking young Thai female driver - I admire their bravery, but I am also very conscious to keep any conversation strictly 'respectful and professional' which really isn't a difficult thing to do at all...

If he's found guilty, lock him up!

OK.. sure....   but the information is particularly vague at the moment...

[He is accused of committing an indecent act against a female rider]...

What did he do ? sexually assault her ? spit on her ? punch her ? - what was the indecent act ?

There is supposedly video evidence....   so before passing judgement, it would be interested to see the 'extremity of this indecent act'....   and yeah - throw the book at him if he really has done something horrible and indecent.

It is common for the details of sexual assaults to be withheld to protect the victim, avoid copycat attacks and not to encourage "Curse of the Claw" types who get off on reading such intimate details and wish to act as defence barristers picking holes in the victim's story.

If you really want to know, you can attend pertinent court cases by sitting in the public gallery.

I'd agree without - but when has that every stopped any report in Thailand before ???

There is no mention of 'sexual assault'.... such as the guy slapping the girls backside in 7-11 or the other guy grabbing a woman's bottom in Walking Street last year...

Thus - your comments would be more realistic if there were any consistency surrounding the 'sensitive' nature of reporting...  However, I suspect your response is more influenced by applying a western mindset rather than what happens here....

Security footage later showed the man touching her shoulder and behaving inappropriately.

Thats kind of my point...

Going back to my earlier post....  A Thai friend of mine 'held the riders shoulder' to steady himself as he both got on and got off the back of the Grab Bike....   then the GrabTaxi (female) made a formal complaint and my friend was banned from using Grab (he appealed but they ignored it)...   but this was far from inappropriate contact - it all seems very strange and my friend (Thai) can b trusted to tell the truth - he even contacted grab to find out what he'd done, has the hand on the shoulder was the only contact he'd made with the rider.

... this is something I do pretty much every time I get on a Motorcycle taxi - I grab their shoulder to steady myself as I get on and off....

The article you posted suggests the Iranian [passenger persistently attempted to grope her]... does that mean 'grab her breasts' ..... Or she didn't like her shoulder being held for support ?

Given the response, it would seem it to be the former [attempting to grope breast] but the story really isn't very clear and between pillion riders there will of course be some contact....

Its a strange one - but for sure, If the Iranian was trying to sexually assault her by trying to grope her breasts etc... then for sure, take full legal measures.

Another nonesense drivel.

"That conversation recently becoming more pronounced in the MuslimMatters.org community, with the April 25, 2011 publication of an article entitled, “Sex & the Ummah | Sexual Harassment: A Muslim Problem?” The author, Hena Zuberi, shares her personal encounters with unwanted touch – each one is chilling and some are echoed in the experiences of other commentators of her blog.

“A touch, a feel, a whisper. It doesn’t take much to make a young girl feel dirty, stripped of her dignity. Walking in the streets of this Muslim country was treacherous,” she writes. And then in thoughtful language that spares neither civility nor responsibility, she ascertains those features of her beloved country and religion (or interpretations thereof) that allow for the continued subjugation of women.

Her conclusion: Women and men must speak loudly about the problem, and no longer hide in shame when someone harasses them for simply being a woman in the wrong place at the right time from the perspective of the aggressor.

Sexual Harassment is at epidemic proportions in some countries in the region. Consider these statistics, taken from Zuberi’s article:  “In 2008, Abul Komsan, the woman’s rights activist, polled 1,000 women from all parts of the country. What she found shocked her. 98 percent of foreign women polled said they had been sexually harassed. And about eight out of 10 Egyptian-born women said the same thing. She also surveyed Egyptian men, and almost two-thirds of men polled actually admitted that they harassed women.”

Religious and non-religious women, Muslim and not, dressed conservatively and otherwise, have been reporting extraordinary high numbers of untoward advances that include groping, inappropriate language, to outright assault."

I would like to see the video footage. I guess, have to choose male drivers, always. Whenever I take a motorbike, they've always been men except one time and fortunately no problem.

He was groping her, most likely trying to touch her tits.  A female moto driver I knew in Pattaya said touch-the-tits moves were quite common and that was one reason few women wanted to be moto drivers.

According to the Thaiger article (my bold text):

"Although the exact location was unclear, the passenger persistently attempted to grope her. Feeling increasingly unsafe, she decided to head towards the police station.

"Despite her efforts to dissuade him by stressing the importance of respecting women and transport riders, the harassment continued."

https://thethaiger.com/news/bangkok/iranian-man-arrested-at-bangkok-airport-over-indecent-act-charges

The "hand-on-shoulder" move came when the Iranian was trying to buy her off so she wouldn't go to the police.
