The point I want to make is that while there is of course going to be a strong contingent of those who say "guys like this make it harder for the rest of us"... or "he knew the law and still overstayed"....  even the "hangem high posts"....

... If he has been contributing in some form to society, i.e. via his family and supporting them etc....   

 

Then what has he really don't wrong when looking at the bigger picture ?

 

Can't Thai's issue longer retirement visas ?... 

 

Its just a bit of paper at the end of the day... surely... 

 

 

It's been mentioned before, so not being pedantic, but officially it's an "Extension of Stay", and whether it's based on retirement or marriage to a Thai national, it's an extension renewable every year.

 

However, I do agree with your suggestion - it's a pain having to go to Immigration every year to give them piles of  photocopies of various documents - many of which are exact copies of the ones that you gave them the previous year(s).

That's his problem, not Thailand's. He will be stuck for as long as it takes him. He can avail himself of his embassy for consular assistance, whatever that will entail.
