A road crash in Nakhon Pathom’s Sam Phran district has claimed the lives of a one-year-old girl and a male driver, while three others were left seriously injured.

The collision occurred at approximately 14:00 on 26 February, on Khlong Mai Road, Moo 2, Khlong Mai subdistrict, when a saloon car and a four-door pickup truck crashed head-on. The impact left the vehicles severely damaged, blocking traffic on the dual lane, two-way road.

Police Lieutenant Chayananis Srimotsuk, an investigator at Sam Phran Police Station, received the emergency call and dispatched rescue teams to the scene. The accident site was about one kilometre from the Phetkasem Road junction, en route to Krathum Baen district, Samut Sakhon. Locals, who heard a loud crash, rushed to investigate before alerting the authorities.

Rescue volunteer Nattaphon Saengsanguan, from Suksala Nurok Nakhon Pathom Foundation, was among the first responders. He described the scene upon arrival. The saloon car, registered in Ayutthaya, had three unconscious male occupants. The driver, identified as Natthawin, was found to be deceased, pinned under the steering wheel and dash board.

As rescuers removed his body from the car, they discovered a young child trapped beneath him. The one-year-old girl was immediately given CPR and rushed to Sam Phran Hospital but sadly succumbed to her injuries. The two other male passengers in the car sustained critical injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck, registered in Bangkok, was a woman travelling alone. She also suffered severe injuries and was transported to Vichaivej Om Noi Hospital.

Police at Sam Phran Police Station have collected evidence from the crash site and will examine nearby CCTV footage to determine the cause of the collision. Once the injured survivors recover, they will be questioned as part of the ongoing investigation.
