Unfortunately this problem is caused by the Thai people asking them for money.

Lots of officials in Thailand are corrupt.

Many want their 'hand in the till'.

And of course, were their warnings in English??? Was it a jealous agent who did not get the tourists money???? T.I.T.

  • Most tourists don't know they aren't supposed to be there.   If I was taken on a paid tour, I'd expect the tour guide to make sure everything was legal.

Thai people always do as they are told, by someone in authority. :cheesy:

What a sad act saying that. very unprofessional.

Any way one more massive . :coffee1:.

Inexcusable behaviour by the loudmouth tourist. Questions should be asked, however, as to why the group, who wanted to dive, were apparently taken to a place where it is illegal to dive.

You forgot Loud mouth Yanks 🤷🏼

Isn't the coral on the sea floor? How is people bobbing around on the surface causing damage,  but the boat is not.

I can't  see what the guy is doing wrong ? He is snorkeling on the surface . He hasn't  damaged  any coral ! Or did he ?

How did he get there eventually would be the quest ?

Because  boats definitely damage coral reef  areas more than someone snorkeling .

The usual new sport of Thais making video's of Tourists  to get some attention on the web . ( "this is crazy" , he's  making a point 😅 ) .

"Money excuses them from following the rules" No surely not in Thailand laughable that's is exactly how Thailand operates

when tourists see how thai peoples drive here, they all knows  you dont need to follow any rules or laws here

It's about time they start enforcing some kind of protection of the coral reefs here...but two iItalians snorkeling is nothing compared to what the longtailboat operators are doing...running propellers down into the corals and throwing Anchors on them etc. Breaking of pieces for fun.

I have taken part in some coral reef rehabilitation program as a volunteer in Malaysia and Indonesia not seen any project for that here yet. Even thought of initiating a project here in Thailand in collaboration with one ofnthese international groups as it's definately needed.

IMHO,  this has nothing to do with the visas, this is about the arrogrant Italian tourists and the tour boat that illegaly took them to the restricted area. Even if the Itlaians were innocent of the restricted area,  thier behaviour was unacceptable. Once told by the Thai park ranger they were performing an illegal activity that should have been end of story.  As to the tour boat, they are guilty regardless of either taking a bribe form the Italians (private hire) or instructed by the tour agency to take them there. The Thai authorities should be focused on the Thai tour boats and Thai tour agencies.

Vaffanculo, stronzo presuntuoso! 🤬

Years ago, before Koh Tao was so popular, and its neighboring island of Koh Nanuan had only a small noodle shop... no beach chairs, no noise, no crowds...

But in the bay on the west side of the island, in about 18m of water,  was a HUGE Barrel Sponge! It must have been 50-75 years old.  It was big enough for a diver to actually drop down completely inside without touching the walls of the sponge. Perhaps 2.5 meters tall and at least one meter inside, with red colored walls about 60cm thick, it was beautiful to see, and an oft-visited dive venue...

... until a Thai tour ship (which used to bring a few hundred Bangkok Thais down for a one-hour swim there every day,)  decided to drop its anchor right on top of the Barrel Sponge and completely destroy it.
Italian tourists are a problem?  Really?

Just noticed the Thai guy flipping the bird at the guy ,

right at the end of the clip. :cheesy:

class act all round.

The tourists had probly expected the diving spot, to look like the very beautiful photos they were shown, when paying top-dollar for a tour of colorful coral reefs with plenty of exotic fish. But any snorkeling trip I have  been on in Thailand, have only taken us to the same boring spot as numerous other boats, which had few if any exotic fish or colorful corals, but plenty of tourists.

I bet their was a little translation problem as well, Thai, Italian, mixed with some broken English, all 700m off shore. mixed in with all the confusion. I bet it sounded great?

The title says that they damaged the reef then in the text it said that they endangered the reef. I read the whole article and I saw no reference to damage.

OK. So you go to some country, pay some moron and do anything you wish?

Unfortunately this problem is caused by the Thai people asking them for money - so give them the money and do as you wish?

Lots of officials in Thailand are corrupt - SO, the people who pay them are clean and good?

Great logic indeed.

They have areas for rejuvenation of the reef. They should not have been in that area. Also, their actions could attract others to the same area. It’s quite easy to shallow dive and bounce off the reef back to the surface.

Well that echos the actions of the guy in the video. Maybe typifying the Italians.

i hope there is an Italian moderator here 😎

Sai detailed how the tourists, suspected to be Italians, were found swimming in a closed-off area meant to let the coral reef recover after much of it died last year.

The Thai park rangers were acting with patience and politeness compared to the foreigner.

Rejuvenating a coral reef need more knowledge than bashing Thai people IMHO.

Did you see the rangers asking for money? The problem is caused by tourists who do not follow the rules or not listen to officials when it explained it is a closed area to protect the coral. Going by the video it is a self entitled tourist who thinks he can do what he wants because he has money.

And if these were Chinese tourists, none of this would happen. The Park Ranger knows he can get a reaction with complaining about farang tourists. More, it is something  PooYai higher ups approve of.

Perhaps media reports like this are helpful to keep Thai national attention from thinking about why Chinese tourists, those saviors of Thai tourism,  are no longer coming in big numbers. In fact they have not been coming in big numbers since Jan 20, 2020. Yep, you can date it.

"""tourists who do not follow the rules or ....not listen to officials when it explained....it is a closed area to protect the coral""

Once UNIFORMED(?) officers told the tourists, they should have obeyed instead of argue and be ...physically... restrained - reward them with fine and deport.

The tour operator should(?), probably did know a protected area, refund tourists money, be charged and fined, bussiness licence suspended for a period of time.

My opinion.

Ask yourself why they feel embolded to behave this way in Thailand ? Thailand is attracting low quality cheap thick tourists.

Because Thai laws are lax, this <deleted>e been going on forever, it just with social media you see it more than before

Simply because the area was designated a ‘no go area’ for corals to recuperate. Both boats and snookers / divers are not allowed into the area. Law is law.

Ya. Money solves everything here. So fine those Italians hugely and let their money resolve the issue.

Please explain how your gratuitous Thai-bashing comment makes any sense in relation to this incident.
