A 16-year-old boy was injured in a drive-by shooting when unidentified gunmen in a pickup truck opened fire on his car in Phatthalung. The victim suffered gunshot wounds to his left cheek, while his vehicle was riddled with gunshot holes.

At approximately 02:20 police received a report of a shooting on a frontage road in Moo 2, Tha Mi Ram subdistrict, Mueang district, Phatthalung. Officers from Mueang Phatthalung Police Station, led by Police Lieutenant Sommai Kuesuk, rushed to the scene.

They discovered a bullet-ridden MG car parked on the roadside. The car had sustained 16 impact holes, seven on the driver’s side windscreen and nine on the rear door. The left front tyre was also punctured.

In the middle of the road divider, police found a spent casing which was collected as evidence.

The victim was taken to Phatthalung Hospital after suffering two gunshot wounds to the left cheek. Fortunately, none of his four friends in the car, nor another friend following on a motorcycle, were injured.

According to initial statements, the group was driving toward Phatthalung city when a pickup truck pulled alongside them and suddenly opened fire. Despite the attack, the driver managed to maintain control of the vehicle and his friends were able to call for help.

The victim believes the attackers were part of the same group responsible for another shooting in Phatthalung the previous night, in which another 16-year-old was wounded. The police are now investigating whether the two incidents are connected.

Authorities will question all witnesses and examine possible motives, including personal disputes or gang-related violence.
